How to quickly and efficiently make a gate from a profile pipe?

Any fence assumes an entrance, which, as a rule, has a gate and gate. These fence parts are usually the most expensive elements of the fence due to the complexity of their manufacture and installation. However, in this case it is quite possible to save by doing the wicket gate and the gates from the profile pipe with your own hands.

Advantages of the profile pipe as a material for the gates

The profile pipe is one of the most economical materials having excellent strength, reliability and long service life. The cost of the pipe is not low. However, the performance characteristics of the profile, as well as the possibility of creating structures without the use of additional workers, completely compensate for the price of raw materials. This makes it possible to classify this material as being the most suitable for making gates from a profile pipe by hand.

All that is required is a minimal ability to work with the Bulgarian and welding, as well as some knowledge in the drawings.

Drawing for gates

Before proceeding with the construction, it is necessary to pre-compose a drawing of the gate from the profile pipe. First, it will allow you to accurately calculate the required amount of material. Secondly, this will guarantee the correct installation, the absence of distortions and neat appearance.

Initially, it is necessary to perform all the measurements, on the basis of which the drawing is executed. This measure includes measuring the gap between the supports and calculating the area of each leaf. By the way, even during the construction of the fence, it is necessary to arrange poles, on which the gates from the profile pipe will be fixed, at a distance sufficient for driving a car or other equipment. Also, pay attention to enough space to fully open the future flaps.

Calculation features

When planning the gate, be sure to consider the sail material. If the structure is located on a terrain that is freely blown, the flaps should not be made too large and made of solid material. The fact is that in this case the load on the frame will increase significantly, which means that the gate from the profile pipe will have to be strengthened. This will increase the cost of fencing and more complex installation work. Therefore, it is preferable to use a building material such as a mesh or grate.

What else needs to be done is to calculate the length of the leaflets so that they freely converge with each other. In case if later the gates from the profile pipe will be sheathed with corrugated board, it is recommended to take into account the number of stiffeners on each leaf so that they do not cling to each other.

If the profile pipe serves as a frame for the liner, make sure that it fits into place.

Selection of material for the production of gates

After the sketch of the future gate will be compiled, it is necessary to calculate the amount of material required. In this case, as in the construction of any other structure, be sure to make a 10% margin for unforeseen circumstances.

The gates from the profile pipe can be made of a material of different cross-section: round, rectangular or square. The most economical are the last two options, for their production is used somewhat less raw materials than for round pipes. Another advantage of the square or rectangular section of the pipe is that even a novice welder is able to work with this material, since it is much easier to weld gates from profiled pipes with straight sides.

In addition, do not forget about the size of the pipe section. In general, profile pipes are used with a cross section of 40 x 20 mm or 50 x 50 mm. However, do not forget about the wind load on the structure, in some cases a larger cross section is required, for example 60 x 30 mm.

The process of manufacturing gates

Of course, the first thing that is required is to prepare all the necessary tools and material for work. If the profile pipe is covered with rust, it needs to be cleaned and degreased, then cut into pieces of the required length. Some builders immediately cover the material with a primer and a protective compound. But during welding, the layer of the tool will be damaged, so it is better to process the treatment after installation.

Often the question arises as to how to properly weld the gates from the profile pipe. The main thing is to observe the technology and the order of the welding work. The work must necessarily be carried out on a stable level ground, which is not subject to ignition. At the same time use a face mask or glasses, gloves, and as a clothing choose a suit of dense fabric.

Procedure for welding the leaflets

The entire welding process takes relatively little time and is performed in accordance with the general technology of this work. Before welding elements with a solid seam, they are preliminarily grasped by spot welding. Then check the accuracy of the dimensions of the manufactured part. If everything is done correctly, perform a welding seam, which is then ground.

First, the frame or the frame of the gate is welded at the corners, and it must be ensured that the two flaps are in the same plane. As an option, first weld the common frame, which is subsequently cut in the middle. This approach guarantees the accuracy of meeting the required flap dimensions.

After the manufacture of frames, they need to be strengthened. To do this, additional stiffeners from the same profile are welded onto the main frame, and triangular metal plates are welded to the corners.

Another important point is the welding of loops. First, halves of these parts are fastened directly to the gate leaf. The second halves are put on and, by placing the leaf at the required height, the lower part of the hinges is welded to the supports. To perform this work it is better to invite one more person who will fix the gate in the right position during the stitching of the hinges.

After carrying out all welding operations and grinding the joints, the finished frame is covered with a protective agent. This can be varnish, mastic or paint. Then you can proceed to the frame skin with the selected building material.
