How to make a foundation drainage correctly?

If it is a matter of protecting the foundation of a structure from excessive moisture, then first of all they talk about waterproofing. Why do we need drainage in this case? In fact, the purpose of waterproofing is to prevent the destruction of the foundation by water, and the task of drainage is to remove this water from the structure. Activities for the construction of drainage and waterproofing are carried out "hand in hand", but talk about their interchangeability is not necessary.

Modern drainage of the foundation is an engineering system that removes thawed, ground, rainwater from the foundation and walls. At a high level of groundwater or finding a site in the lowland, you must do something to prevent water from contacting the foundation, or even better to remove it from the site. Due to these measures there will be no perchage, and indicators of seasonal water level rise will be significantly reduced.

The drainage system is represented by the products of rolled metal, which is laid along the perimeter of the structure in a previously prepared trench. The modern construction market offers pipes that are wrapped in a special material - geotextiles. Thanks to it drainage serves longer. Not only the components of the drainage system matter, but also the way it is organized. Only the competently prepared and conducted works will provide the effect.

To the foundation was protected from water, there are two types of drainage: wall and ring. If we are talking about the first, then here as one of the trench walls is the foundation. The second option - a trench digging, retreating 1,5-3 m. The walled version is used in the presence of a basement or basement floor, and in their absence are circumvented by ring drainage. It differs from the circular ring from the wall, also by rounding, by soft turns of pipes. Here, there is no question of restraining any precise distance, most importantly, a maximum of 3 m. However, the main principle must remain unshakable: the pipe is laid lower than the base of the basement.

Any drainage around the house consists of several stages, which will take about several weeks. First, they dig a fortified trench, and then, if a wall drain is provided, clean the foundation of the old waterproofing and any contaminants. It is dried, and then put a new waterproofing. The next step is laying the geotextile, filling in the gravel backing layer. Then there is a direct installation of drainage pipes, and after installation if necessary storm drainage. After that, the pipes are covered with 50-70 cm of gravel, but you can take sand, especially if it is a ring drainage.
