How to insulate the entrance wooden door?

Entrance doors are more often represented by metal structures, which effectively perform the function of protection and open wide possibilities for sealing the opening. Wooden canvases are used less often, as they are inferior in reliability and strength. In addition, doors made of natural material are not as effective in terms of sealing, which, in fact, leads to the need to enhance their thermal insulation qualities. The advantages of wooden models include decorative properties and environmental friendliness - they justify all the work on insulation.

What is the cause of thermal insulation?

In the usual sense, thermal insulation is represented by one or more layers of special material. Much more complicated is the technique by which the entrance doors are fitted with the sealing of the door. Wooden insulated structures assume the installation of an insulator in several zones. The composition of heat insulators is directly insulated, seals and upholstery, which, in addition to the aesthetic role also contributes to the preservation of heat. A good assistant is also a mounting foam - convenient in applying and effective in operation, the tool provides reliable self-fixing in the gaps and eliminates any "cold bridges". Now it is worth considering the insulators and seals in more detail.

Materials for thermal insulation

Despite the initial requirements for presentability of the input structures, they are very liberal in terms of compatibility with heaters. This can be foam rubber, sintepon, extruded polystyrene foam, polythene foamed , etc. Mineral wool is considered a traditional insulator in Russia, but due to the short-term loss of the initial hermetic properties and against the background of the appearance of more technological analogues, this option is rarely used. Especially if you plan to insulate the entrance wooden door in a private house, you should not save on the means of ensuring tightness.

But, on the other hand, the mentioned thermal insulators on a synthetic basis can not be called ideal because of their unnaturalness, however they fulfill their primary functions - at least they demonstrate reliability and durability, not to mention ease in installation.

Seals

With this material is usually associated with the sealing of window openings, but a high-quality introduction to the construction will also allow to insulate the entrance wooden door with minimal costs. The action of the sealant is aimed at isolating the areas where the webs are adjacent to the box. There are single and multi-layer gaskets, the choice of which is made depending on the characteristics of the house. The material used in the manufacture of this insulator is different: rubber, silicone or plastic.

The role of the upholstery in thermal insulation

It is not necessary to consider the external upholstery as a saving tool against precipitation and drafts. Whether it's a leatherette with dermantin or high-quality leather, they will not provide proper sealing. Their main task (apart from decorative) is to ensure the integrity of the door cake, which will preserve the reliability of the main heat insulators. In this regard, it is important to use the appropriate fastening elements: finishing wire, furniture nails, staples and other elements that firmly fix the material without distorting the external appearance of the door. By the way, the entrance doors are wooden insulated, the photo of which is shown on the right, show an example of high-quality design of upholstery with aluminum coating.

Elimination of defects

Before the immediate insulation of the doors, one should assess their current condition and, possibly, eliminate damage with structural deviations, which in the future will contribute to the fact that the entrance doors to the wooden insulated will not provide adequate protection against heat loss.

The penetration of cold is often due to the weakness of the loops, which leads to sagging and skewing of the structure. Consequently, it is necessary to tighten the screws, screws and other fittings, which ensure the fastening of the blade. It happens that the deviations are so great that adjusting the loops does not help, manipulations with the canvas are difficult. In this case, there is only one remedy: to trim the base with a planer.

Qualitatively, the entrance wooden door can not be insulated and if there are gaps between the box and the wall - this problem is solved by introducing a mounting foam. But before that, it is recommended to remove the remnants of the existing seal. If you plan to replace the hardware, the lock and associated elements, it is better to perform it before warming.

Installation of heat insulator

As the main warming agent it is possible to apply a foam rubber, batting or other heat insulator on a soft basis. At the selection stage, it is important to consider the compatibility of the material with the upholstery. As already noted, the upholstery coating itself has almost no effect on the heat-insulating function, but as a fixing component it is very significant. The local climatic conditions of the region will help to determine the upholstery. For example, if it is required to insulate the entrance wooden door in Minsk, where the winters are not so cold, ordinary dermantine is also suitable. However, if the house is warmed in a region with a more severe climate, it is better to provide quality leather. But in most cases a good combination becomes leatherette and foam rubber.

The door must be removed from the hinges, after which it must be removed from the accessories and placed horizontally. Parameters of dermatitis should be calculated on the door leaf and add a few more centimeters to the creation of the sub-creases. The heat insulator is laid out on a wooden base and fixed with a stapler - the step must be at least 10 cm.

Further it is possible to warm the entrance wooden door with a skin. Installation of dermantine from the upper part begins, and the edges must be wrapped inwards. Then the lining is fixed on the sides, and the bottom is processed last.

Temporary thermal insulation with rollers

This technique can be used as a supplement to the basic thermal insulation, as well as as insulation for a short time. Price accessibility and ease of execution make this method economical and at the same time effective. Roller is the same combination of foam rubber and upholstery that allows you to insulate the entrance wooden door from the inside or outside. The work uses a tubular foam, which should frame a wooden cloth. To create a warming rollers, you must initially leave at least 10 cm of dermantine at the edges - then the tube is wrapped in the upholstery and placed around the perimeter. As a result, a point heat insulation is obtained in the places most dangerous from the point of view of the passage of the cold.

Mounting of sealant

The use of seals is justified in the openings, where the wooden base loosely abuts the box. Thus, the auxiliary material eliminates the cracks and increases the insulating qualities of the entire structure. The most convenient to use tubular models of rubber with a self-adhesive coating.

Calculation of the length and thickness of the insulation is done on the basis of the fold, located at the junction. The material is placed in the grooves and immediately fixed. The length of the strip should slightly exceed the perimeter of the box, and in the course of work, it is necessary to ensure uniformity of the laying of the material.

By the way, there are options that are attached to self-tapping screws - in this case, warming the entrance wooden door with your own hands will be more difficult, but the result will be distinguished by its durability. Also, as an alternative, more modern silicone gaskets are often used . They are really better, but their cost is much higher.

Effect of thermal insulation of doors

To rely entirely on the insulation of doors, as the main barrier for heat loss, is not worth it. Only complex measures to seal the house are able to provide a suitable microclimate - in addition to the doors, the attic is subject to an attic, window openings, a basement room, ventilation niches, etc. Nevertheless, if the thermal insulation of wooden canals is high, it is possible to increase the heat saving factor to 30%.

Therefore, do not save on insulation materials, because if you insulate the entrance wooden door with poor-quality and obsolete means, then the costs will be guaranteed already on the other hand - in the form of payment for the operation of heating equipment. It also becomes a question of the appropriateness of using wooden doors, if there are initially high requirements for heat savings. But the fact is that metal structures as such are little better than natural analogs. High-quality thermal insulation in terms of creating an optimal microclimate in the house puts wooden and steel cloths in one row.
