The childhood of those who are now slightly over 40, as well as their parents, was held in the company with such remarkable periodicals as "Funny Pictures", "Kostyor", "Pioneer", "Young Naturalist" and many other literary ones. Many of these publications are published now. So, its 90-year anniversary marks in 2014 a wonderful children's magazine "Murzilka".

From the history of creation

When this monthly was planned, in addition to the literary content, its authors wanted to come up with a character that would become a kind of visiting card of the publication, so that the children liked it, so that readers would love it and consider it their friend. This funny character must have appeared in every room. The name of the magazine was coined immediately - "Murzilka". Therefore, the authors also had to name the main character as well. The problem arose unexpectedly: how to draw Murzilka? What should it be?

His name was borrowed by the authors of the magazine from Anna Hvolston, a children's writer, who in the late 19th century composed an exciting fairy tale about a small nation - elves. It was there that the merry travelers Murzilka and his friends appeared, who got in their round-the-world travels to various ridiculous and ridiculous situations, but who came out of embarrassment with honor. The hero himself sported a black dress coat, a tall cylinder, with a monocle on his nose. Outwardly, this image was associated with "bourgeois", as the nobility called at the dawn of Soviet power. And how to draw Murzilka, so that he could match the name, and "did not fail" ideologically? The situation was not easy. At first, the role of the main character was put forward just a cute, cute puppy, white with dark spots. He and the owner appeared, a boy named Petya. However, the dog did not become the "face of the magazine", it did not become popular. And the question of how to draw Murzilka, as before, remained relevant for the editorial office.

Yellow fur coat, red beret

For 13 years the magazine was printed without its talisman. Numbers left regularly, but those who would have united all the stories, led the readers through the labyrinths of works and games, and was not. And only in 1937 was invented how to draw Murzilka - exactly the same as it was accepted and loved by children and even adults (the contingent of the magazine is children 6-12 years old). The honor of creating the image belonged to the artist Kanevsky. He came up with a charming little man, or a little animal - a bright yellow, like a sun, fluffy, with a crooked face, a red beret on his head, a long scarf of the same color on his neck and a camera over his shoulder. He is the same age as his readers, he communicates with boys and girls in a language they understand. This mischievous character, curious, and sometimes curious, resourceful, friendly, has become a good friend of many generations of Soviet children.
