In fact, the answer to the question of how to properly cook shrimp in the first place depends on what kind of product should be cooked. There are several types that you can find on the supermarket shelves:

  • Alive;
  • Boiled-frozen;
  • Cheese-frozen.

Their preparation among themselves has cardinal differences, considering which, you will know about how to properly cook shrimp.

Boil live shrimp

The cooking process in this case largely depends on what you will use it for later. Knowledge of how to boil shrimp correctly, will help you prepare a variety of delicious, healthy and inexpensive dishes. If you plan to serve them separately as a separate dish (in the shell), then you will need to do the following:

  • Put the shrimp in a pan and pour it with water so that it is covered from above by about 5 cm.
  • Add salt and mix. The water should be steeply salted.
  • Throw there a couple of leaves of the laurel.
  • Take the dill and tie the bundle with a string, then roll it into the water with the shrimp.
  • Put the saucepan on the fire.
  • After boiling the water, cook the food for about 10-20 minutes. The cooking time depends on the size of the shrimp.
  • Turn off the heat and leave the shrimp in the container for another 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Pull it out and lay it on the platter.

If you want to boil the product for further cleaning and use in the preparation of salads, soups, etc., the cooking technology is slightly changed:

  • Water should be salted only lightly.
  • Laurel and dill are not added.
  • Shrimp can be pulled out of the water immediately after the end of its preparation.

In order to understand the secret of the preparation of this product, it is necessary to dwell on the method of its preparation. After catching the shrimp are moved and immediately boiled in seawater, and then undergo the procedure of freezing. If the product is on the shelf without a shell (this is a small shrimp), this indicates that it has already been defrosted once. But there are exceptions:

  • Extraction of shrimp in the coastal zone with subsequent processing on the shore;
  • Meat of large shrimp, grown on a farm.

How to cook shrimp in this case? In fact, almost the same as fresh, only in the beginning they need to be thawed. To do this, just fill them with cold water and let stand for about 20 minutes. The cooking time also changes, now it is only 2 - 5 minutes. If you have purchased peeled shrimp and then plan to add it to the salad, then it is advisable to cook it in the same way as the one that is in the shell. For frying, baking or adding to the first dishes it is enough to simply defrost it and rinse it.

Boil raw-frozen shrimp

Here the cooking technology is absolutely no different from the one used for living shrimp. The difference consists only in the fact that the product should be completely thawed during the preparation. The cooking time for shrimp in the shell remains the same, without it - decreases by 5 minutes. Unfortunately, the raw-frozen shrimp is a rarity on the shelves of our stores, but it is more useful in comparison with cooked-frozen.
