How much oil should be poured into the engine? Instructions for selecting and replacing oil

As soon as people buy a car, they do not immediately begin to think about the future care. But after several thousand kilometers it's time to think about this. The first questions for car owners usually concern lubricating fluid: what to use, how much to fill in the engine, how to check its level, how to make a replacement, and so on.

General characteristics of engine oil

This consumable material for the car is in the form of mineral water, synthetics or semisynthetic.

Mineral oil is a natural product, it is obtained by processing petroleum products. Synthetics, as is clear from the name, is of an artificial nature and is created as a result of chemical synthesis, and semi-synthetic will result when the mineral and synthetic oil is mixed into the engine.

Which is the best? Synthetic is the most persistent and lasts its useful functions. But many motorists prefer semi-synthetic form, considering it the best option.

In the oil, the viscosity parameter is very important. It reduces friction of engine parts against each other, thus preserving their properties.

Additives - the third most important parameter of the oil characteristics. They perform a cleaning function, freeing of resinous deposits, improving the grinding of mechanisms and knots during running in, reducing the friction between the nodes and, as the manufacturers assure, they even repair the parts, which, of course, raises doubts.

The best oil in winter

In the cold season, some car owners use the same species as in another season, that is all-season material. But some, following the recommendations of experts, switch to special oil in the engine.

What is the best for cold weather? Changing oil depending on the season, you need to take into account not only its quality characteristics, which certainly play a role, but also the expediency of this operation depending on the operation.

After all, if the car is in the garage, where the heat, it is unlikely that the motor needs another liquid. But for new cars, of course, you can not spare money for oil. Using the best brands of liquids, car owners will increase the life of their power unit.

How to choose oil for your car

To make the right choice, you first need to refer to the instruction manual of the tool. All information there is set out in detail and exhaustively: how many liters of oil are poured into the engine, the recommended viscosity and basis and so on. Having studied this, the car owner must necessarily buy oils corresponding to these characteristics.

However, as to what brand to purchase, he can decide himself according to his preferences. But it happens that some brands just do not fit for a particular car. Therefore, all the same it is worth paying attention to the testimonies of those who tried it with the same vehicle. Expert opinions in this area are also important.

How much oil should be poured into the engine

To answer this question, you should first refer to the vehicle's instruction manual. But often for inexperienced drivers and after studying the manual in practice there are questions.

Ultimately, how much oil should be poured into the engine is usually solved in the process itself, although the manufacturer usually leads a strictly certain amount.

This indicator, of course, depends on the volume of the unit. For example, for the engine from 1.8 liters to two and a half it is known how much oil in the VAZ engine should be: 3.7 liters. But in practice it is filled with no more than three and a half liters. This is because when replacing completely the oil does not pour out, and about five to ten percent of the engine still remains.

How much oil should be poured into the engine of a foreign manufacturer? With the above volume of the motor, the fluid will be required more than for our cars. Usually this number ranges from 4.2 liters to 4.4 liters.

First, most of the required amount is poured (about eighty percent of the number that is prescribed by the manufacturer). Then, after waiting a few minutes until it settles, gradually the rest of the amount is added. It is necessary to monitor the level, so that it does not exceed the maximum allowable.

How to check the oil level

In order to get the right figure, you need to know how to check the oil in the engine correctly:

  • The car should be on level ground;
  • The engine should not be wound up, as this is dangerous and the correct result will not work;
  • The motor should not just be drowned out, but also to settle, which means a simple one without work for three to fifteen minutes, then the oil will have time to drain into the pallet;
  • Nevertheless on foreign cars it is possible to check the level even with a hot engine (there are two indicators on the dipstick: Cold and Hot, which means "cold" and "hot").

Oil flows from the engine

During the operation of the car there are also such unpleasant moments as fluid leaks from the motor. This can be caused by different reasons:

  • Leakage of individual elements;
  • Leakage of oil seals;
  • Malfunction of the intake manifold;
  • Use of unsuitable oil;
  • Prolonged downtime;
  • Pierced seal gasket.

Gulf with lubricant

Oil can also flow due to the fact that the tank was filled with too much of it. Because of this, the pressure of the motor fluid jumped. Oil filling in the engine can cause destruction of sealing parts and seals, which, naturally, will lead to the formation of a leak.

How to replace the oil

Replacement of the lubricating fluid must be done from ten to twenty kilometers of mileage, depending on the model of the car. But if, for example, oil flows from the engine or some other problem causes repair of the unit, then the consumable material should be replaced, even if it has not worked all kilometers.

The procedure for changing the oil can be carried out in any technical center. But it is so simple that even a novice driver can easily cope with it.

So, if it is decided to make a replacement yourself, then you need to purchase a suitable oil filter and the liquid itself. The first must be changed to ensure the safety of the motor from the previous oil, as it contains dirt and metal chips.

For the replacement, you will need a trestle or a garage with a pit. Two containers for spent consumable material are prepared, one liter for five, as well as a pallet. The procedure should be performed on a well-warmed engine, so that the oil is free glass completely and without residue.

With the help of a key turn off a stopper картера. Thus it is necessary to pay attention to a stopper on a carving and a ring. When the oil is dripped, a tray is inserted and its condition, degree of metallization and suspension are inspected. The cork is pressed against the crankcase so that it is not thrown back by the jet. Then all the liquid is poured into the prepared container and tightly tightened the plug back.

It is also advisable to change the rubber gasket, since it is peculiar to vary under the influence of temperature. Then another gasket is lubricated with oil and screwed with a stopper. After this, without removing the pallet, the filter is unscrewed. The old is thrown away, and fresh oil is poured into the new one and carefully screwed. Further it is necessary to add to the filler as much as the amount of oil to be poured into the engine is recommended by the manufacturer. The fill level is monitored by the feeler gauge.

When the required amount is filled, the motor is started and left for a few minutes to allow the oil to glass into the crankcase. Having switched off the engine, it is necessary to be convinced, that no streaks in the places of connection are formed. If everything went well, you can safely travel the next thousand kilometers with a fresh liquid.
