Gypsum plaster "Rotband": technical characteristics
Gypsum plaster "Rothband" can be used for finishing walls and partitions made of any material. Excellent adhesive qualities, high degree of plasticity, ease of application - all this makes it unusually popular in the domestic market.
Manufacturer
Gypsum plaster "Rotband" is manufactured, the technical characteristics of which will be discussed below, by several Russian enterprises with the involvement of the capital of the German firm Knauf. Hence its double name: "Rothband Knauf." In the production of this universal mixture, only the highest quality materials are used and all the required technologies are carefully observed. The composition was developed by the specialists of Knauf. For the preparation of this mixture, mainly gypsum is used. Also in it there are special polymer additives.
The product is packaged in paper multilayer bags of 5, 10, 30 kg. The latter option is the most common and popular. A brief instruction for use is put on the packaging. With bags you need to handle neatly. Despite the multilayeredness, due to the considerable weight of the plaster, it is very easy to break them.
Plaster "Rothband": technical specifications
As already mentioned, the plaster "Rothband" can be applied to absolutely any surface: block, brick concrete. Very often trim it and insulated with polystyrene foam or a dense mineral wool wall. According to the recommendations of the manufacturer, apply "Knauf" should be a layer of a thickness of at least 5 mm and not more than 50 mm.
Adhesive properties of it are very high - 0.5 MPa. Shelf life of the dry mixture is six months. It can only be used to finish the walls from the inside. Exterior buildings use exclusively cement mixtures. From the table below, you can find out what other properties the plaster "Rothband" differs from.

Main advantages
To the advantages of plastering "Rothband", the technical characteristics of which, as you can see, are remarkable, besides excellent adhesive properties and plasticity, you can refer:
- A small expense. To finish the walls it will need much less than a cement slurry (2-3 times).
- The ability to retain water very well.
- Ecological safety.
- Ability to "breathe".
- Non-combustibility. Very often plaster "Rotband" is used to protect expanded polystyrene in rooms with an increased risk of fire.
Which shade option is better
The shops sell pink, white and gray plaster "Rothband". The technical characteristics of this tool, as the manufacturer assures, do not depend on the color. However, many specialists working with this plaster claim that the pink version of it has better plasticity. When applying a thick layer of such a solution less drains from the wall. White and gray varieties are more suitable in the event that in the future it is supposed to paste wallpaper on the wall without using putty.
The dissimilarity of the properties of the plaster of different colors is explained by the different grain sizes. In white and gray mixtures, it is very shallow (0.5 mm). In pink - large (up to 1.2 mm).
How can you find out exactly what is in the bag the gypsum plaster "Rothband"? Specifications on the packaging are indicated. But the color, unfortunately, is not. However, you can try to determine it by manufacturer. Thus, white plaster is produced by such companies as Knauf Gips Baskunchak and Knauf Gips Kuban. Gray - "Knauf Gips", pink - "Knauf Gips Kolpino" and "Knauf Gips Chelyabinsk." You can tell the color by the manufacturer quite accurately. But sometimes this method does not work. Therefore, when buying about the color of the money, it is worth asking the seller.
How to Make Bread
It is very easy to make a solution of Rothband plaster. One bag (30 kg) will need to use 18 liters of water. Of course, once all the dry mixture is not necessary to mix. The plaster "Rothband" (technical characteristics can be seen in the table above) very quickly freezes.
When preparing the solution, three parts of water are usually taken in two parts of the dry powder. Kneading should be done in a container without corners. In this case, the finished composition will be more homogeneous. Usually for this purpose a bucket is used from under the water - based paint. First, water is poured into it, and then 5-6 trowels of dry plaster are pawned . Then everything must be thoroughly mixed until a uniform composition is obtained. After that, add the remaining dry mixture to the bucket and mix again. It is best to prepare the solution with a drill with a special nozzle.
Mix the "Rothband" mixture only in a clean container. The remedy is very high quality - Knauf Rothband. Technical specifications allow you to perform even thin layers of 3 mm from it (although this is not recommended by the manufacturer). However, the presence of any impurities can significantly impair the properties of the mixture. Therefore, the solution should be prepared in a very clean container. Tools should be washed and immediately after the preparation of the mixture. The plaster "Rothband" stiffens very quickly. Before use, the mass is allowed to stand for 5 minutes.
Cooking solution should immediately necessary consistency. After the beginning of the procedure, do not add plaster or add water to it. Do not add any foreign components to the mixture. If you do everything according to the rules, you will get a very high quality plaster mix "Rothband", the technical characteristics of which will make it possible to achieve on the wall or ceiling a stable, smooth, crack resistant layer.
Preparatory work
Before applying "Rotband" plastering, the walls must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and dust, and also remove any residual wallpaper, plaster, etc. All surfaces must be clean and dry. Aerated concrete, brick or gypsum fiber, as they absorb water very well, it is necessary to prime beforehand. For this, you can use, for example, a puddilmitter from the same Knauf.
Concrete smooth surfaces are usually treated with concrete in contact. This makes it possible to increase the adhesion between the wall material and the plaster. In this case, it is also recommended to use the Knauf brand. Before applying plaster, the primer or concrete contact must dry very well.
Methods of application
Putty "Rotband", the technical characteristics of which are much better than many other domestic plasters, including, in particular, a very high degree of plasticity. Therefore, it can be applied absolutely for any technology. The most commonly used beacon method. In this case, the stripes of the prepared solution are applied to the walls with a step slightly less than the rule length. Further, special thin profiles are pressed into them. After solidification, the mixtures begin to finish the walls. To do this, the solution is thrown between the profiles of the trowel and leveled with a rule.
Sometimes a second layer of material is required on the walls or ceiling. In this case, before the surface hardens, it passes through a special plaster ridge. It is possible to apply the second layer not earlier than 24 hours after the first.
Plaster "Knauf Rothband", the technical characteristics of which are actually quite good, gives a very flat surface. However, the walls are still better to be leveled with a metal strip. Carry out this operation about an hour after application. Under wallpaper or painting the surface of the wall is treated with a trowel.
Structuring of plaster
In order to get a more interesting surface, before the applied layer cools, you can walk on its surface with a trowel or a hard brush. Very interesting texture is also obtained when using a special relief roller. You can buy such a tool in any construction supermarket.
Requirements for tools

Technical characteristics (GOST 31377-2008 for gypsum plasters the manufacturer is observed completely) allow using absolutely any tools when applying it. This can be not only a rule and a trowel, but also ordinary spatulas of different lengths. For leveling corners, a special tool of a special shape is usually used. Ceilings are often plastered with a construction falcon.
Grout can be made independently, for example, cutting a wide piece of foam plastic packaging for household appliances. Finishing the top of the walls and ceiling is usually done either from a ladder, or from a special repair table.
How to store a dry mix
Bags with plaster "Rotband" must be brought into the premises. It can be a garage, a hall or a hozblok, the main thing is for the air to be dry there. Otherwise, the mixture will catch clots. Put the bags best on a wooden pallet. Do not store the dry mixture in a damaged container.
