Gymnastics rings and their use

Gymnastic rings - one of the many shells used in gymnastics. The most interesting part of men's gymnastics is the exercises performed on the rings.

What are the gymnastic rings?

This sports equipment consists of two rings made of a solid material (quality Finnish plywood or plastic), fixed at a height on special ropes.

Exercises on the rings are permanent in the program of the Summer Olympic Games, and are also part of the competition in artistic gymnastics in world and continental championships.

Exercises performed on rings consist of dynamic and static elements: lifts, turns and twists. At the end of the exercise, an acrobatic jump is performed. Before the start of the exercise, the athlete needs an assistant, who puts him on the projectile. To perform exercises on the rings, the athlete must be physically prepared.

It should also be taken into account that the execution of static elements by load is more complex than dynamic ones. A static element is counted if it is held for 2 seconds or more. The most famous and complex static elements are:

  1. "Cross" is an exercise during which the gymnast must hang horizontally on the outstretched arms.
  2. "Airplane" - an element in which the gymnast's hands are divorced in different directions, and the body should be parallel to the rings.
  3. "Reverse airplane" is an equilibrium during which the body should be in a horizontal plane with rings, the hands are diluted to the sides, the stomach to the ceiling, the back is turned to the floor.

Judges evaluate not only the complexity, but also the purity of the performance of the elements, and the quality of the produced jump.

Structural groups of elements made on rings:

1. Fly elements: unscrewed back and forth, large revolutions, complex double turns forward and back and others.

2. Flapping elements in the rack on the hands (it should be held for about 2 seconds): lifts in a swing back and a turn in the rack on the hands, large turns forward and back.

3. Fly elements that end with a static element: a cross, a high angle, horizontal stops.
