From Malibu to Saint-Tropez: the best buggy for the beach

Not so long ago the beach could be stopped by car - it was not forbidden by the rules forty years ago. Then there were amazing beach cars, created specifically for luxury holidays. Which models of such cars are particularly good and worthy of a separate mention?

«Meyers Manx»

In the middle of the twentieth century, the Californian engineer and artist Bruce Myers came up with the idea of creating a special buggy for driving in the sand. Already in 1964 appeared created by him "Meyers Manx", somewhat resembling a variation on the theme "VW Beetle", but still quite original. This car began a new page in the history of the automotive industry - beach cars became very popular and they were launched by many automobile concerns of the world. A pioneer with thick tires and an engine located behind, became the basis for similar options - including the legendary buggy "Queen Manx", caught in the middle of the Hollywood tape "Afer Thomas Crown." But, if the first buggy from Myers had a powerful engine, its European incarnations were created, rather, for style, and not for speed - these were miniature copies for comfortable rest.

«Jolly»

This funny car was created on the basis of several models of "Fiat". Tiny cars were sold all over the world and featured a light fit, low sides, wicker seats, resistant before the test of sand and sea, and a bit of a strange roof, which could be tied to a boat if desired.

«Mini Moke»

Interestingly, this amusing miniature car without doors and with a convertible roof was created on the basis of military transport, the model of which was not in great demand. The car conquered all the beaches from the Caribbean Sea to the Cote d'Azur. It was an indispensable attribute of an impeccable beach holiday - vintage shots with Brigitte Bardot make it possible to see how fashionable the model was.

French models

The French were carried away by the idea of producing beach machines so much that buggies appeared almost at every national manufacturer. Of particular interest are the "Rodeo" from the "Renault" and similar to the "Mini" version of the "Citroen" - "Mehari", which had the unusual ability to slightly take off from the strong wind that fell under the light roof. However, he could not fly elegantly, so it was a flaw. Nevertheless, it does not spoil his stylish appearance. French models were quite in demand and popular not only in their home country, but also on beaches around the world.
