Cultivation of the Cleoma - an unusually flowering plant

Cleomia is a herbaceous annual plant, which has recently become a particularly popular decoration of flower beds and country sites. It can be recognized by characteristic bright flowers up to 3 cm in diameter. They are collected in multiflorous racemose inflorescences. Flowers prickly pearls have an original and original shape: on one side are the petals of the corolla, and on the other - a column and thin long stamens. The stalk of the plant is upright, strong and strong, can reach 150 cm in height. Light green leaves of the Cleoma differ in apical (small whole) and middle (large complex, consisting of several jagged edges on the edges). At their base are hard spines, and the whole plant is covered with sticky hairs. Stringed fruit of the flower appear as it fades and contains a large number of black small seeds. Due to its unusual and attractive appearance, the cultivation of Cleoma has become widespread and as an interesting central element in the flowerbed, and as a background in group plantings. On large flower gardens, these plants will perfectly emphasize the beauty of undersized flowers, especially white petunia and lemon tagetis. Cultivation of the cleoma is justified also in the form of the central element of the floral composition. This plant is perfectly combined with verbena and sage. These flowers are also great for cutting - they stay in the water for a long time (up to 10 days), keeping their fresh appearance. Cultivation of the Cleoma does not require any "over-strength". All that this plant needs is timely irrigation, weed removal and loosening of the soil, as well as well-planned additional fertilizing.

Cleomia: growing and caring for this beautiful one-year-old

It is desirable to select for this plant solar areas, protected from strong cold winds. Soil must be fertile and well drained. The clover is propagated by seeds. In order to get a good seedling, they are sown in late March or early April. The first shoots appear in about two weeks. Adult plants are planted in the open ground in spring, after the threat of frost passes (you can focus on planting tomatoes). The distance between the seedlings is maintained at 35 or 40 cm. Before planting the material, the soil is necessarily fertilized with compost. After the procedure of transferring seedlings to an open site, they are regularly watered, but not poured (plants do not tolerate water stagnation). Cleomia reacts poorly to the over-dried and waterlogged soil, so it should be watered moderately and at the same time regularly. In general, the plant is rather unpretentious and resistant to aggressive environmental influences: for it, the temperature regime has no special significance. If the soil on the site is poor, spend fertilizing every 3 or 4 weeks. For abundant flowering, the plant can also be fertilized during the budding period. Thus, the cultivation of the Cleoma is not burdensome. It is only necessary to carry out simple rules of agricultural technology: watering, fertilizing, loosening the land and removing weeds. On fertile, rich soils, observing these conditions, the Cleoma will blossom beautifully throughout the summer period, decorating with its original appearance any site.
