Football coach Miron Markevich: biography, coaching career

Myron Markevich, whose biography and coaching achievements are presented in this article, is one of the most famous Ukrainian football coaches and functionaries. Teams under his leadership repeatedly became prizewinners of the Premier League, and also successfully performed in European competition.

Biographical information

Markevich Miron Bogdanovich was born in 1951 in a small town of Vinniki, located in the Lviv region. The first coach was his own father - Bogdan Markevich. Career as a player was short-lived: from 1970 to 1977 the future coach played for the doubles of the Lviv "Carpathians", and also for SKA, "Spartak" (Ordzhonikidze) and Lutsk "Torpedo".

After the end of his playing career, Miron Markevich was not going to part with football. Having received the necessary education at the Lviv Institute of Physical Education and the Higher School of Trainers, in 1983 he began to work as a mentor for young athletes.

Coach career

Having started his coaching career in FC Volyn (Lutsk), Miron Markevich managed to work with two other Ukrainian teams for nine years - Podillya (Khmelnytsky) and Kryvbas (Krivoy Rog).

In 1992 he became the head coach of his native club "Carpathians" (Lviv). Here he works for four seasons. Despite the stable game of the Lviv team, after the end of the 1995/1996 season, he was sacked due to a lack of significant progress.

Having worked on the year again in "Podillia" and "Kryvbasse", Miron Markevich again received an invitation to become a coach "Carpathians". In his native club, the coach worked with a two-year break until 2002.

At this time, the life of Miron Markevich can not be called easy and carefree. First, he very hard endures the death of his father, then makes an unsuccessful attempt to gain a foothold in the role of head coach of Makhachkala "Anji", and then in general becomes a victim of abduction for the sake of ransom. But, fortunately, everything went well, and Miron Markevich started his career almost from scratch.

Having worked again two years in the "Carpathians", the coach accepted the invitation to become a mentor of the Kharkov "Metalist". It was here that the talent of Miron Markevich was revealed.

For 10 years from a mediocre team, "Metalist" has turned into one of the grants of Ukrainian football. This club was respected and feared by rivals not only in the domestic championship, but also in European competition. The 2012/2013 season was triumphant, when the Kharkov team managed to intervene in the dispute between Dynamo and Shakhtar for the leadership and sensationally took the final second place.

After the change of the owner of the Metalist, Miron Markevich moved to Dnepropetrovsk Dnipro. Here he continued to achieve excellent results with the new team. In addition to the third place in the Championship of Ukraine, "Dnepr" managed to reach the final match of the League of Europe, where in a bitter struggle lost to the more eminent "Seville". Despite the defeat, Markevich became the first coach in the history of independent Ukraine, who led the team to the European Cup final.

Unfortunately, due to financial problems and conflict with the owner of the Dnipro, Miron Bogdanovich resigned. Now he holds the post of head of the Committee of National Teams at the Football Federation of Ukraine.

Undefeated coach of Ukraine

In 2010, Miron Markevich received an offer to head the national team of Ukraine, combining this position with work in Metalist. But, after his club was removed 9 points for the "contractual match", the coach left the post of coach of the national team.

In addition to a record number of matches held as a coach of the domestic championship, Miron Markevich is still the only undefeated coach of the Ukrainian team. Under his leadership, the main team won three matches and once broke up with its rivals in the world.
