Fire-breathing and dangerous volcano Kilauea

The most active volcano, not only in the Hawaiian Islands, but all over the globe, erupts for more than 30 years, and during this time he managed to ruin villages with a population living in a dangerous area.

Where is the Kilauea Volcano?

It is considered one of the youngest, because it is not more than 600 thousand years old, and there is a volcano in the Hawaiian national park, open to tourists since the beginning of the last century. Ancient legends say that inside the fiery hole lives the wayward local goddess Pele. At each eruption, the lava drops freeze, like her tears, and the brooks of boiling rocks seeking to the Pacific form her hair.

Description of the volcano

The active Kilauea originated during the tectonic fault in Hawaii. The first eruptions were above the water surface of the islands, and later a unique process allowed the emergence of a solid land in the middle of the ocean, and the fiery mountain already erupted over the frozen, centuries-old basalt. Amazing tourists watching from above a unique natural phenomenon, appears Kilauea volcano with a slightly convex cone, consisting of the unnatural color of frozen magma. At its top, in a 200-meter deep depression called the caldera, a red-hot lake consisting of a seething lava splashes, the 4-kilometer diameter of which is simply staggering.

But one of it, it turns out, for the output of the boiling mass of natural attractions is not enough. Surprising is the giant force pressing inside from where the Kilauea volcano is located, and forming several dozens of erupting craters in the danger zone. The flowing fiery lava, when frozen and layered, forms whimsical patterns. The most stunning views appear on the surface of the ocean, where boiling streams rush: fire small islands, reaching the water, some time still float on the surface. The spectacle is amazing.

Deadly threat

It is very dangerous to be near a bubbling lake. Sometimes the frozen and then awakening Kilauea volcano erupts a huge amount of red-hot lava. Therefore, there are no speeches about the walks near the fire-breathing giant and nearby territories. Steam through the burning vents that are in the ground, and in these places loose soil presents a great danger. And the slopes of the volcano are full of huge cracks through which liquid magma breaks out.

The huge eruption force can erase small settlements from the face of the earth, which happened about 30 years ago in the Hawaiian archipelago. Then the whole village was lost, but the indigenous people adapted to the dangerous neighborhood. They started building houses on very high stilts, which allows them to buy time and move homes to a safe place.

Dangerous eruptions

In 2014, another eruption of the Kilauea volcano took place, which was observed by the whole world. The fiery lava, moving to a residential village, burned everything in its path. And the numerous series of earthquakes in the archipelago made us assume that the process of eruption will be very long.

The US military evacuated the local residents, but not all left their homes, many remained, fearing looting. It is known that the boiling lava buried an ancient cemetery and houses, and the farms were burned by powerful fire. In 2015, the Kilauea volcano again showed its terrible activity after a small earthquake that occurred next to a powerful mountain. The scientists who watched him closely concluded that it would not bring any special destruction, but still urged the Hawaiian authorities to keep the situation under control, as the streams of the fiery river headed for the tropical forests.

National Park

The volcano park on the archipelago, in which any economic activity is banned, was founded not only to increase the flow of tourists contemplating fantastic landscapes. For scientists this place has become truly unique: all researchers of natural processes work at a special station and observatory. These are the first scientific institutions that study in practice the nature of the appearance of the islands and the Kilauea volcano.

For tourists, the authorities organized safe routes in the park, and self-confident travelers who deviated from them, forever remained buried under the streams of boiling lava. However, those who prefer extreme rest, will be satisfied with this awesome and at the same time extraordinarily beautiful spectacle.
