Features of the Russian stress

Very often people remember from childhood the words with the wrong accent. Over time, it is extremely difficult to correct. In our language there are no clear rules of stress at all. It is much easier and quicker to remember the peculiarities of Russian accent in words and to use them in practice than to constantly struggle with improper pronunciation of words out of habit and to re-learn speech skills.

In French, the last syllable is always percussive, but in Russian there are many exceptions to the rules. Even the same word has an accent on different syllables depending on the number of words standing. For example: the girl started A, and the boy started.

The main features of stress in Russian are:

- Diversity, when the stress falls on any syllable in different words (kozhukh, svoboda, magazin). The Czechs always strike the first syllable, while the Turks have the first syllable.

- Mobility is inherent in the basic number of words in the Russian language. In this case, in one word, with declination or conjugation, the stress may change (I. vodka, B. in., KrUzhevo-lace)

- Variability allows, in the course of time, to change the stressed syllable in a word. Many poets used the word musica for rhyme earlier. Therefore, in verse it is correct to read. But we say these words today as muzyka. Although some words retained the permissibility of a different pronunciation (rukushka and rakushka, dogovOr and dovogov). To correctly pronounce such words, it is convenient to look at this information in the orthoepic or explanatory dictionary. After all, the peculiarities of the Russian accent are complex not only for ourselves, but also for foreigners, too.

- There are also accent options, for example, thinking is similar to leadership and beating. The stress falls on the suffix -en. And the words-exceptions must be remembered, in them the emphasis is placed at the root of the word :

- APPLICATION;

- glAzhenie;

- security;

- naming;

- focusing.

- In the indicative mood of the verbs, the stress is placed on the second syllable - pribubite, poljubite. And in the imperative mood it passes to the penultimate one - destroy, awaken.

- It is not always necessary to draw an analogy with the simple word wire, which is part of complex words (electric, but muscovite, piping, roads).

- There are words in which stress does not have a significant meaning (tvorog and creativity, right and right, alcohol and alcohol)

- Professional terminology also requires knowledge of the peculiarities of Russian accent (coal miners, fluorography, or prikus in physicians, compass from seamen).

The rules of stress in the Russian language can be traced in names. So, in all women's stressed syllable penultimate (Zoya, Marina, Svetlana, Veronika).

In short male names, the stress also falls on the penultimate syllable (Kola, Vita), and in the full name always the stressed syllable is the last (Nikolay, Anton, Vladislav). But remember Yuri and Georhy as an exception.

There are no clear rules for stress in our language, and it is difficult to remember all the peculiarities of Russian accent, therefore it is more practical to refer to a dictionary in a difficult situation than to pronounce words at random. Let this become a habit, then you will not fall into a ridiculous situation.

In conclusion, a list of the most frequently used words, which are best learned simply by heart:

- Spark, koklyuYush, tableYar, chassi, schAvel, dremotA, the courseThird, the pool;

- Gravel juice, cedar forest, pricing policy ;

- people glukhy, but rude, slips, but friendly;

- scoop water, but ringing at the door, years of life, but spilling tea.

In words konkurs, zhemchug, nasromk, imvol, tokar, in the air the first syllable is now under stress. But in the past in these words, the last was shock. That is, you can say here about the regressive stress, when it is transferred from the last syllable to the one that stands before it. Many words continue this process to this day.
