Fabric background and non-woven background. What is the difference and which one to choose?

Often you can hear the question: "What background to choose - fabric or non-woven?" They have a lot in common, although there are a lot of differences. It is necessary to figure out which of these studio backgrounds is best for a particular studio, before buying a background in a home or professional studio. To properly choose and buy a studio background, the photographer will need some knowledge of the nuances.

  • The nature of these backgrounds is different. For the production of fabric backgrounds, muslin - a fabric made from cotton - is used most often, while netting is pure synthetics.
  • The texture of backgrounds. The weaving of the threads of the fabric background is roughly as rough as the mesh texture of the non-woven background, and therefore they can be recognized as identical.
  • The transparency of the non-woven background and tissue is approximately the same. But the fabric backgrounds come in different densities, and the photographer can pick up what is necessary for his purposes. Netkanka for today is issued only one density. Here already, what is, there is such.
  • Crushing, brittle and ironing. Here, and lies one of the main differences between fabric and netkanka. If the fabric easily falls on any surface, taking its shape (you can put the fabric on the cube for the model, you can drape the stool or sofa). With a non-woven background, this result will not be achieved. Of course, it will not break like a paper background from the fact that it was slightly deformed, but if you make an effort, you can crush it and pat the netback like a tissue background, it will not work out.
  • Smooth surface. If you hang a fabric and non-woven background next to it, you can visually see that the non-woven background provides a more or less even surface. Even the most dense fabric background, hung on the gate background installation system, anywhere, let it go by a wave. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it.
  • Wear resistance. There are no advantages to any background - both fabric and netkanka quite wear-resistant. Fabric background can be washed, and on netkanku generally in principle less sticking dirt, and almost all the dirt can be wiped off with an ordinary rag.
  • Water procedures. For aqua shooting, both backgrounds are quite suitable. Tissue can only swell and darken from water, that is, slightly change its properties. Netkanka, like any synthetics, is less susceptible to water, the only thing is that it is light enough and if the water level is above zero, it can even float. Prepare the weights!
  • Setting the background. The option for a fabric background is one - the gate background installation system. For the fabric background, it is very important that it is installed on the crossbar. But as an option, you can install it on an ordinary crossbar for curtains. Non-woven backgrounds are most often shipped on tubes. These are special cardboard tubes. They can be installed on both the gate and the background lifting system with brackets.

More details about studio backgrounds, about the purpose of each and how to choose the right one is written on the Photogor website. If the photographer will clearly understand for what purpose the studio background is going to be used, then he will never be mistaken with the choice.
