Euthanasia - "for" and "against" in modern society

Every day more and more people think about euthanasia, but their opinions are fundamentally contradictory. Some consider this a good thing, while others consider it a murder, which must be strictly forbidden. Recently, several European countries, such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, have officially decided that euthanasia, for and against which people speak, to whose opinion society listens, is permissible. The same applies to the US states of Oregon and Washington. But almost all other countries of the world and the US states oppose it, considering it a criminal offense. Euthanasia in Russia is also prohibited and is prosecuted by law.

General concept

In order to understand what euthanasia is, for and against which people so often speak out, it is necessary to familiarize themselves with certain fundamental provisions. There are two types of euthanasia - active and passive. Passive form refers to the rejection of therapy that supports the patient, and to active - the introduction of any drugs or actions that shorten the life of the patient. In addition, it is necessary to distinguish between involuntary and voluntary euthanasia. If the patient is conscious, then he has the right to decide whether to continue living or not. If not, this decision is usually taken for him by relatives.

Two sides of the medal

One of the most controversial problems of modern medicine is euthanasia, for and against the use of which arguments are not so easy to find. On the one hand, medical progress makes it possible to successfully resuscitate the patient and support his life with the help of special devices and preparations, but few people think about why a person needs such a life if he does not have a hope for recovery. In addition, theoretically, every person has the right to dispose of life at his discretion. But in fact it turns out that people, when they become infirm, can no longer do anything and give themselves to the mercy of relatives, not having the right to independently cut off their lives.

Morality

The main problem of euthanasia is its moral side. Opponents of this procedure believe that, in fact, euthanasia is an ordinary murder, which means that a certain group of people gets the right to decide whether the person should live or not, and act in accordance with his decision. Supporters of euthanasia, on the contrary, believe that this will allow a person to dispose of his destiny to the last, which he has every right to.

Real life

Practice shows that a fairly small percentage of people under the age of 40 think about their death and about a problem such as euthanasia, for and against which there are many reasons. But you must carefully weigh everything before making a decision. People of pre-retirement age and retirement age also do not often think about how they will spend their last days, what is expressed by the mentality of Russian citizens who believe that such thoughts can "cause trouble". With the same phenomenon is associated with a record low number of wills issued in Russia, as people are not very interested in what will happen after their death.

Life should bring joy, and a meaningless existence, depending on the devices of life-support, will not bring happiness to anyone. In many countries of the world, relatives simply have to disconnect patients from the devices, since they do not have huge money for their maintenance. In this case, an excellent way out would be a voluntary early decision of the patient that he agreed to such a procedure, and signing papers on the conduct of passive euthanasia. For and against it, each person will have their reasons. In most countries this concept is inextricably linked with organ donation: in Western European countries, which our politicians and officials like to equate, it is believed that every person who has not issued a waiver in life can become a donor.
