"Dropshot" is a plan of attack on the USSR. The Cold War

After fascist Germany was defeated, the United States was so frightened by the strength of the Soviet Army that they were forced to develop a special strategy - "Dropshot." The plan of the attack on the USSR and its allies suggested stopping their subsequent invasion of Western Europe, the Middle East and Japan.

Reasons to create

The main strategy was developed by the Pentagon from the beginning of 1945. It was at that time that the so-called threat of the subsequent "communization" of the whole of Eastern Europe arose, as well as an extravagant version of Stalin's intention to invade the territory of Western states under the pretext of clearing them of the remaining German invaders.

Several previous American projects served as prerequisites. The code name for the plan of attack on the USSR changed several times, and its basic directives changed as much. The Pentagon developed probable actions of communists and designed its methods of counteraction. New strategies replaced each other, replacing one another.

Operation "Dropshot": background

Now it is for certain that there were several concrete plans that ordinary Americans did not even suspect. These operations are:

  • "Totality" - was developed by D. Eisenhower during the Second World War;
  • "Charoityr" - an updated version, entered into force in the summer of 1948;
  • "Fleetwood" - was ready for the third anniversary of the end of World War II;
  • "Troyan" - the plan was worked out in anticipation of the beginning of the bombing of the Union on 01.01.1957;
  • "Dropshot" assumed that the sudden bombing should begin on 01.01.1957.

As can be seen from the declassified documentation, the States really planned to unleash a third world war, which would turn into an atomic war.

Americans have nuclear weapons

For the first time, the US plan "Dropshot" was voiced in the White House after the Potsdam conference, in which the leaders of the winning states took part: the United States, Britain and the USSR. Truman arrived at the meeting in high spirits: on the eve of the trial launches of nuclear warheads were made. He became the head of the nuclear state.

Let us analyze the historical summaries of a specific time interval in order to draw appropriate conclusions after this.

  • The meeting was held from 17.07 to 02.08.1945.
  • The trial launch was carried out on 16.07.1945 - the day before the meeting.
  • On 6 and 9 August 1945, two such shells completely burned Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

The conclusion is: The Pentagon tried to bring the first nuclear test to the beginning of the conference, and the atomic bombing of Japan - to an end. Thus, the US tried to establish itself as the only state in the whole world possessing atomic weapons.

Plan in detail

The first mentions, available for publicity to the world public, appeared in 1978. American expert A. Brown, working on the secrets of the Second World War, published a number of documents confirming that the United States did develop the strategy of "Dropshot" - a plan for attacking the USSR. The scheme of action of the American "liberation" army should have been as follows.

As stated above, the fighting was to begin on January 1, 1957.

  1. In a short time, it was planned to drop 300 atomic ammunition and 250,000 tons of conventional bombs and shells into the territory of the Soviet Union. As a result of the bombing, it was planned to destroy at least 85% of the country's industry, up to 96% of the industry friendly to the Union countries and 6.7 million of the state's population.
  2. The next step is the landing of the ground forces of NATO. It was planned to attract 250 divisions to attack, of which the Allied troops numbered 38 units. The occupation operations were to be supported by aviation, in the number of 5 armies (7400 aircraft). At the same time, all sea and ocean communications must be captured by the NATO Navy.
  3. The third step of the Operation "Dropshot" is the plan to destroy the USSR and erase it from the political map of the world. This implied the use of all known weapons: atomic, infantry, chemical, radiological and biological weapons.
  4. The final stage is the division of the occupied territory into 4 zones and deployment of NATO troops in the largest cities. As stated in the documents: "Pay special attention to the physical destruction of the Communists."

Broken dreams

The Americans were not able to implement their "Dropshot" strategy, the plan for an attack on the USSR was not implemented thanks to one event. 03.09.1949, a pilot of an American bomber flying over the Pacific Ocean, with the help of instruments, recorded a sharply increased radioactivity in the upper atmosphere. Having processed the data, the Pentagon was extremely disappointed: Stalin is testing atomic bombs.

Truman's reaction to the message did not follow, so he was discouraged. Only after some time in the press there was information about this. The government feared an inadequate response in the form of panic among ordinary people. Scientists of the Pentagon have found a way out by proposing to the president the development of a new, more destructive bomb - hydrogen. It must necessarily be in the arsenal of the States to pacify the Soviets.

Despite the difficult financial and economic situation, the Soviet Union lagged behind the Americans only for 4 years in building an atomic bomb!

Arms race

Considering the further development of events, "Dropshot" - the plan of attack on the USSR, was doomed to failure. All the faults were the following scientific and high-tech developments of the Country of Soviets:

  • 08/20/1953 - The Soviet press officially announced that a hydrogen bomb was tested.
  • On October 4, 1957, the first satellite belonging to the Soviet Union was put into orbit. This was a guarantee that intercontinental range missiles were created, as a result of which America ceased to be "unattainable."

It is worth to thank the scientists who, in the post-war conditions, developed the Soviet response to American "attempts". It was their heroic work that allowed the next generation not to learn from their own experience what the "Dropshot" is - the plan for the destruction of the USSR, the "Troyan" or "Fleetwood" - similar operations. Their developments allowed achieving nuclear parity and planting world leaders for the next negotiating table related to the reduction of the number of nuclear weapons.
