Do we need rangefinders for hunting?

The world is changing before our eyes. Things, which seemed to us fantastic ten years ago, have now turned into everyday objects. Generations of technological progress, they accompany us everywhere - from toothbrushes on batteries and dishwashers to complex computers and spacecraft. Progress has also been made to such a traditional occupation of man as hunting. At the same time, the use of perfect materials and constructive solutions in the arms had little effect on the process itself. But when rangefinders began to be used for hunting, the changes were significant. We will talk about this.

The principle of action and a bit of history

Range finders for hunting are electronic-optical devices used to calculate the range. The principle of their action lies in the ability of light to reflect from objects and in determining the speed of its movement. The device calculates the time for which the light reflected from the object returns to the device, and thus determines the distance to it. High accuracy and ease of use make it possible to use a rangefinder in various fields of human activity, but for the first time it, of course, appeared in the military (for which, in fact, it was developed). At first they were equipped with tank sights (in the 70's), and as the device was improved and its dimensions decreased, it was used in manual optical surveillance and aiming devices .

With the improvement of manufacturing technology and cheaper cost, it became possible to offer rangefinders in the civil market. Let and not at once, but their possibilities have been estimated by consumers, and now popularity of them grows every year. There were laser range finders for hunting, for construction, sports and even automobile. However, there is enough general information, let's return to the topic of our conversation.

Laser rangefinders for hunting

I do not think it's necessary to explain what gives the hunter the knowledge of the exact distance to the target. Eye-sight is one of the most important qualities of a good hunter. However, it is given by nature and in this sense, not all are lucky. Of course, years of training and experience can work wonders, but is not it easier to buy a range finder for hunting? The price for it will be incomparable with the effort and time spent on acquiring the necessary skill. The most effective application rangefinder from ambush and in open areas, where game does not allow to come close. The use of this device will improve the accuracy of shooting with an optical sight and ultimately save ammunition and nerves.

It is taken for granted that rangefinders for hunting are completely useless on a duck or small game. Meanwhile, this is not quite true. Experienced archers, arriving at the hunting site in advance, make up a fire card (using laser range finders), in which they mark the landmarks and the distance to them. With such initial data, the fire from the gun is an order of magnitude more effective than firing at the eye.

Information for skeptics and conservatives

As practice shows us, no matter how experienced the hunter is and how well the eye is developed, the errors in determining the distance are frequent. After all, a lot of factors influence the human eye: fatigue, light conditions, warm air movement, etc. In turn, range finders for hunting are always able to accurately determine the distance and create conditions for a single accurate shot.
