Dimensions of fishing hooks, their numbering and features

Success in fishing is equally determined by the professionalism of the fisherman and rationally selected gear. From the smallest component - the fishing hook - at times depends more than on all other equipment.

Structure

The structure of the hook is:

  1. Head. Functional part, place for fastening the thread. Visually it can consist of a lug or a scapula, and also instead of them can contain notches for fastening a very thin line.
  2. The forehead. Working axis, which determines the distance between the head and the forehead. For vegetable profit - actually short, whereas it is better to plant a worm on an elongated forearm.
  3. Poddedev. Hook-like bend. The shape can be semicircular or angular.
  4. Sting. The sharp part, which provides hook and hold extraction. The most common are single, double and triple specimens. Fishing for "peaceful" fish takes place on a single hook, while pike-perch, bream, perch, pike, it is advisable to fish on double and triplets.

The size of the fishing hooks is the main characteristic that guides anglers. The concept implies the distance between the forearm and the tip of the sting, which is commonly called the width.

For the tackle market, a wide variety is characteristic, depending on the severity and type of sting, the shape of the head and the spade. The most informative distinguishing factors are:

  1. The size of the fish hooks.
  2. The thickness and length of the forehead.

Numbering

In order to simplify understanding of the existing diversity, it is customary to distinguish the sizes of fishing hooks by numbers. For the domestic system it is usual to number them depending on the distance between the forearm and the sting, which is called the width. Thus, the hook under No. 3 has a width of 3 mm, and No. 7 is 7 mm. These principles are clear to all fishermen.

Complexities arise with the international designation system. It has a reverse numbering, based on the principles of comparing the dimensions of a real product with some standard values. In fact, the reverse order of the numbers takes place. At the same time, the modern version has an extended range of possibilities, which allows producing both very small hooks up to the 32nd size, and very large ones - up to size 20/0.

In order to know how to determine the size of a foreign manufacturer's fishing hook, one must understand the correspondence between Russian and international systems.

An approximate table of matching the numbering of the hooks is given below.

At the same time, the foreign system is only indicative, and manufacturers label their products in their own way, relying on the standard.

Dimensions of fishing hooks, as well as the number of podevyv must fully meet the conditions of fishing, as well as the parametric and characteristic features of fish. So, for catching small carp on the float fishing rod the smallest single-subject instances will fit, and for large predator fishing - medium and large "tees".

Russian marking

If you consider the possibility of a variety of tackles of this type, the numbering of fishing hooks by size is not the main one. Important characteristics, which draw attention to the manufacturer and the consumer, are also the thickness of the forearm and the overall length of the product.

In the standard designation, its type is most often indicated. Visually, the hooks differ in the shape of the forehead bend, in the nature of the bend and in the sight of the head, in color and material.

Roman numeral I denotes a one-horned one, with one podvevom with a head in the form of a spatula.

II - differs from the first sample by the presence of a fishing line for securing the line.

III - a hook bent with a head in the form of a spatula.

IV - the same, but with a ringlet.

Example of full marking in the domestic version:

II- # 5-0,3-10,

Where 0,3 - forehead diameter, mm;

10 - total length of the product, mm.

The thickness of the forearm and the material of the product are complementary characteristics: a thick enough, from a low-quality metal can prove to be an order of magnitude worse than a thin high-strength tackle.

Production features

All fishing hooks can be manufactured in two ways: forging or stamping. Forged products are more reliable and catchy, but the price often contributes to the advantage of stamped in front of them. The latter can often serve practically at a level if all the relationships are taken into account: the thickness of the forehead, the material, the size of the fish hooks and their shape, the features of the desired prey.

The international designation necessarily includes relevant information regarding all the nuances.

  1. Material: Stainless steel - stainless steel, Hi carbon - high-carbon, Vanadium - wear-resistant steel, alloyed with vanadium.
  2. The color scheme and the variant of the external coating: N - nickel plated, BN - black nickel, PS - tinned, G - "gilded", BK - darkened black.
  3. Method of sharpening: chemical (Cut point), mechanical (Cone cat), pressed (Needle Cone).

It is rational to give advantage to wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant well sharpened hooks, in color according to the bait used, the characteristics of the bottom and the reservoir as a whole.

The choice of each angler is quite individual, based on knowledge, experience and personal beliefs. Precisely selected, effective and catchy hook - an indicator of experience, professionalism and the share of luck of his master.
