Cyst of the brain in children: varieties and their treatment

The cyst of the brain in children develops on the site of its dead site and represents a fluid accumulation that fills the created empty space. The cyst can appear in different places of the brain, it can consist of one or more formations from different sides. There are three types of pathology: arachnoid, subependimal cyst and vascular plexuses.

Arachnoid cyst of the brain

This anomaly is formed in any area of the brain and has a variety of sizes and shapes. The exact cause of its appearance is not known to this day. The arachnoid cyst is sometimes the result of an inflammatory process, meningitis, trauma or hemorrhage. This cyst is characterized by the acquisition of large sizes and further development, as a result of which the adjacent areas of the brain are squeezed.

Vascular plexus cysts

These pathologies are most often determined at the stage of diagnosis of intrauterine development of the fetus. A similar cyst of the brain is considered relatively normal, since at a certain stage of pregnancy it disappears. Problems are delivered by vascular cysts formed after the birth of a child. They arise due to various inflammatory processes and infections that the woman suffers during pregnancy, infectious lesions of the fetus, as well as in severe pregnancy and childbirth. One common cause is infection with the herpes virus.

Subependymal cyst of the brain

This education is more serious than the vascular plexus cyst. With such a manifestation of the brain, a newborn baby will need constant special surveillance of the development of the cyst. The cause of the formation is a weakened blood circulation of the brain at the locations of the ventricles. Due to a lack of oxygen, the brain tissues die, on the place of which a cavity appears.

In the presence of sub-ependent cysts, several times a year to perform diagnostic tests using magnetic resonance imaging. With further growth of the cyst cavity in the newborn and increase in the pressure of the fluid, a number of tissues are clamped and their position is changed. As a result, the child has convulsive seizures, neurological symptoms increase, the general condition worsens.

Cyst in the brain: diagnosis and treatment

The existence of a cyst in children up to a year can easily be determined by the ultrasound method, which is administered to all babies during the first month after birth. This time is the most suitable for the procedure, since the cranial bones have not yet closed, and the fontanel is not completely overgrown. First of all, ultrasound of the brain requires premature babies. Conducting the study is advisable for newborns, if for any reason the child needs intensive therapy, or if resuscitation measures were performed after birth .

The cyst of the cerebrovascular plexus treatment does not require. The data of education pass independently. Their presence does not affect the functioning of the brain and the development of the child. It is only necessary to determine the presence of an infection that caused the cyst, make the necessary treatment and perform a repeated ultrasound. In the characteristic therapy, subpecendial cysts also do not need. The tissues of the brain without the influence of provoking factors come to normal on their own. It is only necessary to conduct timely monitoring of the cyst.

Particular attention should be paid to arachnoid cysts, the treatment of which requires radical measures. The child is in such cases under the constant supervision of a neurologist. Usually, the indications are surgical intervention.
