Cypress indoor: growing and grooming

Until recently, coniferous plants were not considered suitable for room conditions. But now some types of cypress are successfully cultivated as houseplants. Good enough as a room culture mastered the cultivation of cypress large-grain, chestnut and macrocarpa Goldcrest, which has erect stems.

Especially popular is the cypress room with erect stems. His homeland is Southern California. This variety is not very fond of, it is a fast-growing evergreen tree with a bell-shaped, very elegant crown. Its wood is fragrant, dense, impregnated with abundantly fragrant resin, which has the function of protecting plants from decay or woodworm. To place this variety is better in group composition, thereby creating an excellent background for more colorful plants.

Cypress is an indoor plant whose healing needles have an extremely beneficial effect on the nervous and respiratory systems of humans. In addition, it intensively generates oxygen, thereby improving the microclimate in the room. The height of the indoor cypress can reach up to 2 meters. Its growth is regulated by pruning, as well as pot capacity.

In general, cypress indoor - unpretentious plant, but there is one important nuance: it does not tolerate dry air and high temperatures during the winter. Therefore, in rooms with central heating it is difficult to grow them, but it is still possible.

Cypress room: care of a plant

Lighting . Cypress room needs a bright diffused light, shading from direct sun rays, especially in the summer. In winter, a light room is needed for the cypress. If the cypress content is not allowed in the summer on the open window sill (with the exception of the northern windows), in winter it will have to be rearranged as close to the light as possible to the west or south window, but only until the hot sun in the spring. If there is a lack of light, the cypress will stretch out and lose its shape, and if there is an excess of light, on the contrary, the leaves will turn yellow and fall.

The temperature is moderate, but in winter it is necessary to create a cool regime for the plant, the optimal temperature is 8-10 degrees. If the temperature is too high and the moisture level is insufficient, the plant in the pot will start to drop the needles, and its branches will dry out and not grow again. From the end of May to the end of August, it is best to keep the cypress in the fresh air, in the shade and protect it from drafts. Dangerous for the plant hot air central heating.

Watering . In the winter - moderate. And from spring to autumn - abundant. Cypress room does not tolerate both an overabundance of water, and the drying out of the earth, or rather the drying out of an earthy coma, because it is simply disastrous for the conifers. In winter, watering depends on room temperature, for example, if it is kept at a temperature of 8 °, watering is needed about once every ten days, at 12-14 ° - about once a week.

Humidity of air . In summer and in the spring, regular spraying is necessary. In cases where it is not possible to provide a room with a cool room in winter, spray it with warm water in the morning and in the evening.

The feeding of the cypress from May to August is carried out with the help of liquid mineral fertilizer for indoor plants. Concentration of fertilizer is taken in half of the recommended rate. Carry out such additional fertilizer once a month.

Reproduction . Cypress indoor reproduces lignified cuttings in summer and spring. It is also possible to grow a plant with seeds (in spring).

Transfer. Transplant the plant every 2 years, in April - May. Room cypress extremely painfully tolerates trauma to its root system, therefore, a transplant with complete replacement of the earth is carried out only in extreme necessity. Often, transshipment is used with incomplete replacement of the upper earth layer. In simple terms, they replace only the land that easily separates itself from the roots, if the plant is extracted from the pot. The soil for cypress is taken as follows: one part of turf and peatland, two parts of leaf, one part of sand. This plant prefers soil looser, so watch during transplantation so that the root neck does not go too far into the ground, because then the cypress may die. Good drainage is also necessary.
