City sight - Penza Drama Theater

The Penza Regional Drama Theater named after AV Lunacharsky is an adornment of the city. His history dates back to the last century, when he was given the name of the People's Commissar of Education of those years. It happened in 1920.

From 1920 to 1930, the director of the theater was Alexander Ignatievich Kanin. The leading actor was Anatoly Khodursky, who later became a national artist. Plays were put on the works of Pogodin, Kirshon, Afinogenov, Korneichuk. In 1939 the Penza Drama Theater met a new director - Vladimir Prokhorovich Volmar. The performances of that time corresponded to their era. Just as during the Patriotic War, the Penza Drama Theater supported the morale of the audience with patriotic performances. At the same time, actors performed in various regions, went to the active parts of the Red Army. The very building of the theater during the war years was both a dining room and a dormitory, and was used for other needs.

Continuation of development

After the war, the repertoire of the theater was replenished with classical works. On his stage played the plays of Rozov, AN Tolstoy, Chekhov, Shakespeare, Lavrenev, Afinogenov, Arbuzov. In the 1950s, two performances were staged, which won success with the viewer. This is "Drummer" (author Salynsky) and "Predator" (author Balzac). Penza Drama Theater began to travel to Moscow in 1950. The play "Dmitry Kalinin" Belinsky was taken for the first time to the public. Several plays in the theater were staged with the participation of famous actors. Vera Vasilieva, Andrei Popov, Mikhail Zharov took part in them. The new theater building was received in 1963, after the People's House was reconstructed. A new play was staged on the new stage, "Strange Man", with whom the troupe subsequently performed on the Kremlin stage. In the 70's 80's the main director of the theater was Semyon Moiseevich Rheingold. Under his leadership, seven performances were produced, which were shown at the Pushkin Theater in Moscow. But in the early 80's Reingold left the theater. In the future, the Penza Drama Theater developed without him.

New birth

His productions begin to participate in the All-Russian festivals. In 1984, the play "Zabrodiny" was shown at the festival in Magnitogorsk, and in 1985 in the All-Russian festival the play "Bright May" took part. At the 200th anniversary of the theater in 1993, there were people's artists, among them Oleg Efremov, Natalia Gundareva, Mikhail Ulyanov. In honor of this holiday in Penza, a festival took place at which the Penza Regional Drama Theater named after A. Lunacharsky showed the play "Boris Godunov". And in 2008 the building of the theater was lost in the fire. The Russian government allocated funds for its restoration. While the construction of the new building was underway, the actors rehearsed on the stage of the Molodyozhny Concert Hall. And already in 2010 the audience could visit the new Penza Drama Theater, whose repertoire was replenished with new performances during the construction. In the future, actors played a lot of interesting and meaningful roles. In the building of the theater Vladimir Putin met with Russian cultural figures. In 2011, the festival "Theatrical Volga Region" was held.

In December, the audience will see the premiere of the play "Sublimation of Love" based on the work of Aldo de Benedetti. On the stage, the story of a love triangle will be presented, with participants as a deputy, playwright and well-known writer.
