City of Magadan: prison "Talaya" and others

Magadan ... What is hidden in this word? Before my eyes floated Kolyma, the harsh climate of the hill, the taiga, the sea. And, of course, prison, camps, zones at every turn. Well, the songs of Mikhail Krug and Vasi Oblomov about Magadan. But what really is this northern city and how many prisons are there in Magadan?

Briefly about the city

Magadan is the youngest city in the Far East. The distance to Moscow is almost 7 thousand km. The regional center is located in the north-east of Russia, on the banks of the bay of Nagaenva and the bay of Gertner of the Sea of Okhotsk.

In the city, except for Magadan itself, there are several villages. This Dukcha, Snowy, Snowy Valley, Uptar and Sokol settlement, which is the airport of international importance "Magadan".

Communication with the world occurs only by air. Therefore, the airport is called the Golden Gate of Kolyma. This is so, since there is no railroad to Magadan, there is no way to get there by car. Kolyma track is often closed: it is washed out by rain, then covered with snow.

High-speed Internet always fails, mail exists more for a tick. Parcels go for months, or even generally can not reach. The city is practically isolated from the outside world.

Birth of the city

Magadan takes its origin from the distant 1930 of the last century, when the extraction of natural resources and gold began in this region. In 1939, Magadan was given the status of a city. The development of gold-bearing deposits, as well as the construction of the city and the Kolyma route, was conducted mainly by the forces of political prisoners.

One of them was SP Korolev, a world-famous designer of space rockets. In honor of him in the village. Falcon named street. After the Great Patriotic War, the captives of the Japanese and Germans who worked in the mines here were exiled.

Sunny Magadan

Residents of Magadan, having come to the center of the country, face the same situation. Magadans are asked stupid questions for them. And do you live in yarangas, instead of cars and buses, go for deer, and bears are walking along the streets of the city? Well, or the same questions, only in a different interpretation: and eat red caviar with large spoons, and gold rolls under your feet, and Magadan, prison and hills - all this is very close?

And the indigenous people are beginning to dispel all myths. They live in ordinary houses and apartments, drive cars and buses, do not eat eggs with spoons, gold is mined in the mines, nuggets are not lying under their feet. Bears are seen often and regularly, in the suburbs and in the forest. Hills are also nearby, every day from any part of the city are visible. But the connection of Magadan - the prison is very doubtful.

Dark and dark history stretches beyond the Kolyma, the other was not and will not be. But criminals do not walk around the city, camps and prisons do not stand at every turn. Kilometers of barbed wire are not in sight, watchdogs are not heard, but about the prisoners long ago all forgot.

Magadan, zone, prison, Kolyma camps

It is generally believed that Magadan is a city surrounded by prisons, zones, and prisoners can be seen on every street corner. The indigenous Magadan, who has come to the "mainland", will always be asked the traditional question: "Is Magadan, prison, Camps are tied up in a strong knot? "There is nothing of this, everything has sunk into oblivion." Camps on Kolyma by the 60th years of the 20th century were almost completely closed.

The reason for this is simple and trite: the expensive maintenance of prisoners in such hard and hard-to-reach places. And infrastructure support resulted in huge funds. Therefore, it was decided to close all prisons and colonies.

Currently, there is one colony-settlement, one investigatory isolator, and two correctional colonies. In 2006, the last prison was closed. This is a prison in Magadan, whose name is "Talaya". The name was received from the village of Talaya, with which the colony adjoined.

History of Taloy

The correctional-labor colony of the general regime was far from the city of Magadan. The prison is located from it in three hundred kilometers, among hills and taiga. Three high fences isolated her from the world. The outer fence was connected along the perimeter to the electric current. Such precautions were not accidental. Here robbers, rapists, murderers were brought from all over the country.

The road to prison was bumpy and vile, even on KAMAZ it's hard to drive. And if you get there on foot and in winter, it's almost impossible. For this reason, every prison became a small city, which itself provides.

Prison "Talaya" is no exception. There were workshops for sewing clothes and repairing shoes. Cooks, doctors, mechanics, electricians lived on the territory of the colony. Only from the city is distinguished by the absence of women and children and is completely isolated from the outside world. Some mountains, a fence, barbed wire and time, frozen in place.

Accident

In early January 2005, an accident occurred in the boiler room, which heated the prison. The boiler was not able to repair the boiler on its own. It was not possible to bring a new pump. Convicts, and there were about 300 of them, remained without heat.

What does it mean to stay without heat on the Kolyma? This frost is -40-50 degrees, snowdrifts to the waist, and a constant piercing wind. To be in such conditions without any heat is a sure and quick death. The leadership decided to evacuate convicts to other camps. Everything happened quickly and quickly.

In the future, the colony decided not to restore, considering it inappropriate. Gradually she came to desolation. Repair shops, a garage, a dining room, chambers and auxiliary buildings are not subject to repair.

Ice hell is now an abandoned colony of "Talai". Which prison in Magadan will withstand such harsh conditions? Practically none. In the middle of the hills is an empty and lifeless village. All the iron was cut and taken out by the local residents, everything that is of little value is stolen. This is the story of the correctional labor colony with a gentle name "Talaya".

So all the myths about prisoners, escorts, criminals, walking around Magadan, are debunked. There is nothing there that would remind of past camps. There is only the nature of pristine beauty, clean air, the sea with the fish that is swarming in it. And mists and taiga, it's not in vain in the song of Yu. Kukin "I'm going after the fog and the smell of the taiga."
