Citramon - raises or lowers the pressure?

These pills are familiar to everyone. Most often, we drink them with a headache, usually without asking the question: does zithramone raise or lower the pressure?

It's no secret that often the causes of the headache are problems with pressure. Hypertension and hypotension, high and low blood pressure can be manifested by attacks of headaches. In case of pain in hypertension, in order to get rid of it, the pressure should be lowered, with hypotension - on the contrary, it should be increased.

To make it clear whether the pressure of citramone increases, let's see what this, such a popular, drug is. These tablets have a complex composition. They include three components: acetylsalicylic acid in the amount of 0.24 grams, 0.03 grams of caffeine plus paracetamol in an amount of 0.18 g. Consider the action of each of these components.

Acetylsalicylic acid has an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effect. It also reduces the adhesion and aggregation of platelets and the release of clotting factors. Therefore, it is used to prevent the formation of thrombi in ischemic heart disease, retinal thrombosis, impaired cerebral circulation, postoperative conditions. It does not affect the tone of the vessels. Thus, citramone raises or lowers the pressure in no way at the expense of acetylsalicylic acid. By the way, in the experiments, its teratogenic properties were proved. Therefore, drugs containing this substance are not recommended for pregnant women.

Paracetamol in its structure and action is similar to phenacetin, which used to be a part of Citramon. True, it differs from phenacetin with less toxicity. It is known that the latter is able to cause the formation of methaemoglobin, thereby inhibiting tissue respiration. In addition, it is harmful to the kidneys. Fenacetin is contraindicated in pregnancy and kidney disease.

Paracetamol is less able to form methhemoglobin, but in large doses and with long-term use has a toxic effect on the liver. It can relieve pain and inflammation, it lowers the temperature well. That is, in the composition of citramone it provides us with the main action - an analgesic. That, for what tsitramon is appreciated. Increases or lowers paracetamol pressure? It is proved that he does not influence him at all.

The third component of citramone is caffeine. This medication can influence the tone of blood vessels and, in general, the central nervous system. It stimulates motor and mental activity, reduces drowsiness and fatigue, excites the center of respiration and the vasomotor center.

Caffeine increases heartbeat. Under his influence, the vessels of the kidneys, brain, heart and muscles expand. Vessels of the abdominal organs he narrows. Also, the secretion of urine is enhanced by caffeine. This is his combined action! So, after all, does citramine increase or decrease the pressure due to caffeine? The answer to this question is this: under hypotonic conditions, the drug is capable of increasing blood pressure. At normal pressure, no significant changes after taking the tablets will occur.

However, caffeine, included in these pills, is contraindicated in severe hypertension, with organic heart diseases and severe atherosclerosis. Therefore, it is not necessary to take citramone at elevated pressure, without understanding what caused the headache. If you suffer from hypertension and know about your illness, check the blood pressure before taking the medication. Perhaps you need to take a drug that lowers it, and not a citramone.

If your headache is somehow associated with a decrease in pressure, taking Citramone can alleviate it. The same applies to headache at normal pressure.

Given the harmful side effects of the drug, you do not need to abuse it. Perhaps a walk in the fresh air or a glass of strong tea will remove your headache no worse than these popular, but not entirely harmless tablets. Good health to you!
