Chania: attractions of the Greek resort
The real gem of the Greek island of Crete is Chania. Attractions of the town attract many tourists who come here from all over the world. Travelers for a long time are remembered cozy, neat little houses built in the Venetian style, narrow, clean streets, architectural masterpieces, erected many centuries ago, historical monuments and surprisingly beautiful landscapes. In the most green part of the island, 140 km from Heraklion, is Chania. Attractions here are best to inspect in spring and autumn, as it is very hot in summer (the temperature rises above + 30 ° C), and in winter it is not very cold, but often it rains.
Lovers of architectural buildings and antiquities should definitely go to the Old Town, which is considered one of the most beautiful places not only in Chania, but also in Crete. During the Second World War, the historic part of the city managed to survive. In the Topanas quarter, narrow streets and houses are moved to an era when the Venetians were still under Chania. The sights of this region belong to different periods of history and were built by different peoples. From the fortress of Firkas, you have an amazing view of the old port. In the Jewish Quarter you can see the ruins of the bastion of Schiavo and the fortress walls. Also in the Old Town is the Janisar Mosque.
The new part of the city is also proud of Chania. Sights (the map will help to focus and visit all the interesting places) are not as interesting as in the old quarters, but still worth a look at the garden of Kypos, the house of Manusos Kunduros, the residence of Bishop Despotico. To get to know the island of Crete, you should go to the outskirts of the city. Here you can visit untouched by human hand forests, the largest European canyon, beautiful gorges, the mountain range of Lefko Ori.
