Cat of the American Curl breed is a real family friend

A bit of history

Officially it is not known exactly how the American Curl was derived. On this account, there are suggestions that this breed appeared as a result of a natural natural mutation, which in no way affected negatively the health of the cat - the ears of the animal do not harm it at all.

For the first time a representative of the breed was seen in the USA in 1981. In the city of Lakewood, California, lived a family - Joe and Grace Ruga. One fine day they found a wandering black cat with strange ears on their doorstep. They decided to leave it. After a while, the cat gave birth to kittens with the same eared ears. Then the spouses of Ruga came to the conclusion that they became the happy owners of the new amazing breed. Two years later, they were closely engaged in breeding cats with cute ears. The breed quickly became popular, and now the American Curl is known both in Europe and in Asia.

Breed description: standards, health, character

The main standard and the distinctive feature of the curl, of course, are the ears. They are open and bent back at an angle of 90-180 degrees, out of them fussy wool sticks out. The color of the cat itself can be absolutely anything: from monophonic to striped. There are also rare specimens, like the Siamese with curled ears in the style of the "American Curl" (photo below).

Curls are distinguished by enviable health in connection with the absence of any diseases transmitted at the gene level. Their strong, muscular body allows them to be very hardy and continue to briskly jump even in old age. About curl, you can often hear that they are eternal kittens.

By nature, the American Curl is very friendly and sociable. This curious and playful pussy will haunt you everywhere. And the curl will not demand attention to his person, but on the contrary - he will try to take part in all domestic affairs. And, by the way, due to its over-coverage, your fluffy friend will easily find a common language with other pets and with young children.

Care

Curls are unpretentious in care. They do not shed much, so they do not need to be combed everyday. Bathe curls should be as necessary. The only thing you should pay attention to is the bent ears. This feature must always be considered. Open ears curls should be regularly cleaned from surplus sulfur, trying not to damage fragile cartilage. To bend them in the other direction is unacceptable.

Strangely enough, but the American Curl cat gives birth to kittens with absolutely straight ears. But do not be scared. Ears begin to curl as early as 3-6 days after birth. The final formation takes place at 12-16 weeks.
