Calcitovirus in cats: symptoms and treatment

Calcitvirus in cats is the most common disease today. For a person, it is not dangerous, but your pet, if you do not detect the disease in time and do not turn to a specialist, can die.

How does the infection occur?

Currently, four types of the disease are known. And they are all found everywhere. The time until calciviroz begins to manifest itself, is somewhere around five days. And the pet in order to become infected, it is not necessary to contact the sick animal. The cat simply sniffs the feces or lies on the grass marked with an infected animal. Calciviroz is transmitted by airborne droplets and has the property of preserving its vital activity up to a day outside the "master". That's why the disease is considered very dangerous. Even after a complete cure, the cat can continue to release the virus into the environment for another two months. By the way, the symptoms of ailment can not manifest themselves at all, but the pet will be contagious to the surrounding animals. So you need to be very careful when visiting places of large concentrations of cats. And with the slightest suspicion of the disease, the pet should be isolated from other animals.

Calicivirus in cats: symptoms

The disease occurs in a pronounced form only in kittens. And in adult animals, signs may either be absent altogether, or they will not be so clearly manifested. But it is still necessary to know the main symptoms of the disease. One of the first signs is the temperature of the body, which can rise to 40 degrees and stay for several days. Later it falls down, but this is not a sign of recovery. Then, from the nose and eyes of the animal, the secretions begin, which at first have a clear color, and then turn gray. In addition, they do not exude a very pleasant smell. So, if you find this symptom in your pet, start beating the alarm. The tongue, the mucosa of the mouth and the tip of the nose of the cat are covered with sores, inside of which the liquid collects. They greatly interfere with the animal and cause discomfort. There is calciticosis in cats (photo of the disease can be seen in the veterinary clinic) in the initial stage as a "lump in the throat". The animal constantly coughs, as if choking. Later, the vesicles burst, and in their place appear wound. This prevents the animal from eating, it weakens and may die.

Calcitovirus in cats: treatment

The greatest danger is for small and old animals. Immunity in them, as a rule, is weaker, and therefore the lethal outcome happens much more often. But in most cases, the disease itself is completely cured. You just need to turn to a specialist in time. It is he who, after examining the animal, will prescribe broad-spectrum antibiotics that will help eliminate most of the symptoms, and help determine what exactly your pet is sick. And then, after the delivery of all necessary tests, additional drugs and vitamin complexes will be recommended. Calcitovirus in cats is treated not in a day or even a week. In most cases this takes up to several months. And the main thing here is not to quit the treatment, when the first improvements in health appeared. This is to ensure that the disease does not return - otherwise the death of the pet is inevitable. And another animal will need constant and thorough care. Do not be afraid - the disease is not contagious for a person. And your cat or cat will be very thankful to you.
