Assassins Creed: Unity: optimization. Why brakes Assassins Creed

November 13, 2014, the long-awaited release of the non-cystigenic Assassins Creed: Unity (the release date coincided for all platforms), developed and published by Ubisoft. Did the French manage to do something qualitatively new from Unity? Why many forums are full of reports that in Assassins Creed: Unity optimization is at an extremely bad level? All this we will discuss later in this article.

Assassins Creed: Unity - review of the single

Throughout the year, Ubisoft tried to prove that the new part of the "Assassin Creed" would become a real revolution in the genre, leaving far behind all its competitors. They say that they have been engaged in development for a very long time, and therefore fresh ideas and innovations are just a dime a dozen. In principle, they did not deceive us, because there are a lot of innovations in Unity. Many aspects of the game were subjected to processing, which the series needed so long ago. Let's talk about some of them.

First of all I would like to mention the minor quests, which have never been famous for the variety and fascination in the Assassins Creed series. In the new part, the developers approached this issue more responsibly and competently, somewhat changing the mechanics and style of additional tasks. Here you and the full investigation in the spirit of Sherlock Holmes, and the destruction of the satanic cult, and many other things. Immediately we see that most of the missions were created manually, for which special thanks to the developers. It is logical to assume that since such a picky attitude was taken to the secondary branches of the quests, then the storyline became much more interesting and exciting. The story has many scenario turns and dramatic moments, close in spirit to the second part of the "Quiet Killer." From the past boredom of the past parts, there is no trace of what is especially pleasant to realize both to the newcomers of the series, and to its veterans.

An equally important process in Assassins Creed 5: Unity was the system of parkour and movement. For all the characters, new animations were created, and Freeran now has 2 types, the first of which has a priority for descent, and the second - on the rise. From this feature, what is happening on the screen becomes even more spectacular and exciting. In the rest everything is the same: Arno (the name of the main character) without difficulty climbs almost any building in Paris, and from the highest points can also be synchronized, opening a certain section of the map. Management, however, is heavily overloaded, but this drawback was present in all parts of the series and, perhaps, will never completely disappear.

Next I would like to say a couple of words about the combat system, which was also somewhat modernized. First of all, the developers changed the animation and the mechanics of the battles, which became much more complicated. As you remember, in Black Flag Edward was a real terminator, dealing with enemies to the right and to the left, having in the arsenal 4 pistols and 2 swords. Arno will not be so invulnerable, because the developers cut out counterattacks for a more thorough tactic of the fight from the player. Now you will not be able to cope with 10 guards in a few seconds, because they are as clever as a sword, like our protagonist. Arno can easily get around the neck, and therefore stealth mechanics and the use of various bombs are now in priority. Finally, we mention the customization of the character and its pumping. Just in the menu, the player can now buy for Arno a lot of different costumes that will somehow affect the gameplay of Assassins Creed: Unity. Game mechanics can now be applied on several fronts. Do you like to do everything secretly? Then it is necessary to select clothes with stealth bonuses. Want action and more bloody battles? Then buy clothes for melee. Together with this, there is an opportunity to change its color, and also to acquire various accessories. In general, there are plenty of variations. Finally, there was a pumping of the character as a private RPG. Did it do good? No. Experience points, which we earn during the game, are spent on banal skills that do not understand why they cut out of the main skills of the character: breaking the locks, the opportunity to get lost among the NPC on the bench and the like. Perhaps the only reason that Ubisoft screwed this element of the gameplay to the game is a microtransaction. Well, greed often ruins many.

Let us also mention the sound. The soundtrack for the game, written by Sarah Schreiner and Chris Tilton, is not remembered by outstanding compositions, as was the case, for example, in AC 2. Nevertheless, the actors have worked hard to voice actors, because of what the dialogues seem really alive. Assassins Creed: Unity in Russian also does not cut a rumor, however it's much more comfortable to pass with the translated subtitles and original voice acting.

Assassins Creed: Unity - cooperative overview

As many already know, Ubisoft cut out the multiplayer mode from the novelty, having implemented the long-awaited cooperative, which turned out not so bad. There are no particularly outstanding missions, but they are organized in stages, and also artificially complicated due to the number of rivals. The most outstanding were the tasks designed for 4 characters, who can boast of a beautiful setting with thefts, chases, etc. Unfortunately, quite often all the adventures with friends turn into speed races, where everyone wants to be the first to crack down on the target. This has its own charm, but definitely not the same as the guys from Ubisoft saw it. However, the last word is always yours.

Optimization

Optimization, where are you? What did you leave us for? Frankly, there is an impression that the developers have never heard of this word. And it's not even about the PC version, where every second developer forgets how it's done, but it even applies to consoles where the claimed 30 FPSs are extremely rare. At least this concerns the version for PS4. A noticeable part of the time the game frankly podlagivaet that spoils all the pleasant impressions received from the long-awaited innovations. Nothing bad will not say about the version for Xbox One, where in the resolution of 900p the game "flies." However, the first impression was greatly spoiled, which had a major impact on the estimates of the critics and the total sales, but this is a little later.

Why in Assassins Creed: Unity optimization is so crooked? Of course, the whole thing is in the technical component. Looks game is simply stunning. The effect of the crowd is perceived excellently, and most NPCs in the frame behave quite dignified, even if they sport repeating animations. The reconstructed Paris of the end of the XVIII century is beyond praise, and therefore an exciting excursion to one of the greatest cities of our time is assured to you. All buildings look impressive and beautiful, and the scale of 1: 1 only adds an effect of presence. The authors have modeled with astonishing accuracy many famous architectural monuments, among which Notre-Dame de Paris, the Louvre Palace, the Arc de Triomphe and other attractions of the Parisian sights are especially notable. Other features of the graphic component turned out to be excellent: beautiful detailing of characters and objects, realistic shadows, bewitching play of light and so on.

However, the pursuit of the most beautiful picture and "green papers" was a big oversight of Ubisoft. Perhaps it was not worth it to rush the developers with the release of the revolutionary "Assassin". Yes, the game turned out beautiful, with a good storyline and a bunch of innovations, but after the release of its dampness was obvious. Modified engine Anvil terribly unoptimized, the consequences of which poor gamers and feel on themselves, buying the next part of Assassins Creed: Unity. Optimization, of course, is possible after the release of the game by issuing patches. At the moment the game is updated to version 1.4, and the last patch weighs more than 5 Gb. Has anything changed drastically? The answer is quite expected - no. On the PS4, of course, the game began to work more stably, but on the PC, terrible sags FPS are observed so far. Owners of even the most top-end video cards complain of low product performance. For a comfortable gameplay with 30 FPS you will need a strong enough "monster", the system requirements of which we will point out below. Finally, many bugs that concern both our hero and the characters around him have not disappeared either. What can I say? Now Assassins Creed: Unity optimization is at the level of last year's Battlefield 4, the developers of which still can not cope with all the problems. Let's hope that soon the guys from Ubisoft will change the situation for the better.

System requirements (minimum)

As you already understood from the section above, the non-cystogenic "Assassin" is extremely poorly optimized, and therefore for the game you will need a very powerful PC. What kind of iron is needed to run at low settings in the revolutionary streets of Paris?

  • OS: Windows 7/8 (only 64-bit versions are supported).
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K / AMD Phenom II x4 940.
  • RAM: 6 Gb.
  • The video card: GeForce GTX 680 / Radeon HD 7970.
  • DirectX 11.
  • Space on HDD: 50 Gb.

Well, for the minimum requirements, it's not even bad. The same Battlefield 4 or Metro Redux can run at a high level of graphics settings, having such a computer.

System requirements (recommended)

What kind of Assassins Creed: Unity requirements for comfortable playing at high settings and in normal resolution?

  • OS: Windows 8.
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770 / AMD FX-8350.
  • RAM: 8 Gb ;.
  • The video card: GeForce GTX 780 / Radeon R9 290X.
  • DirectX 11.
  • Space on HDD: 50 Gb.

For a simple gamer, the above requirements seem overly exaggerated, but even on such systems you will meet tons of bugs and terrible sagging FPS. The best advice for a gamer will be the purchase of a console, which is certainly cheaper than a top computer. Well, here are the ones to Assassins Creed: Unity requirements. On weaker systems, you can not even try to play, because once you've spent your nerves.

Additions

Of course, like its predecessors, the game Assassins Creed: Unity will acquire additions that warm up interest in the title. In the amount of DLC should add 8 hours of gameplay, which is quite good for an ordinary fan of the series. The largest is the addition of "Fallen Kings," which is a new campaign, which we will also pass for Arno. The place of action will be replaced by a small town of Saint-Denis, and the action will take place in 1794. Together with this, the player will open new assignments in Paris, as well as the already impressive arsenal will be updated several times. Finally, the latest DLC, which the Assassins Creed: Unity will be able to boast, will be digital content of China, where we will play for the pupil of the legendary Ezio Auditore Shao Yong. The game will take place in the 2.5D format, and gamers will be able to witness the Great Wall of China and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the ancient world.

Publications

For Assassins Creed 5: Unity, several editions were provided, significantly different in content and other "goodies."

  1. The special edition will include the game itself, as well as an additional mission for the single "Chemical Revolution".
  2. The Bastille Edition includes a game, an artbook, a disc with an official soundtrack, 2 lithographs, the Chemical Revolution missions and an American prisoner, and an exclusive case.
  3. Notre Dame Edition includes a game, 39.5-centimeter Arno, artbuk, 2 lithographs, a disc with an official soundtrack, an exclusive case and the two above-mentioned missions.
  4. Guillotine Collector's Edition includes a game, 41-centimeter Arnaud, artbuk, disc with an official soundtrack, 2 lithographs, a stylized secret card of Paris, a wooden music box, a deck of playing cards for French taro, a canvas picture in a frame, a set of various outfits for a single, As well as the two above-mentioned missions.

Here are some pretty interesting editions for Assassins Creed: Unity PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions. It is worth noting that the collector's publications will fly you into a pretty penny, because, for example, the cost of "Notre Dame" is 4500 rubles. For the pleasure you have to pay.

Scandals

The release of Assassins Creed: Unity somewhat darkened, because the game collapsed a huge wave of negativity from both critics and ordinary gamers. A sea of technical bugs, FPS subsidence and other problems have become a real hell for fans of the series and beginners. So raw product Ubisoft (in Assassins Creed: Unity release date was too early) still never released, and Watch_Dogs on its background looked just the ideal of optimization. Of course, this situation terribly spoiled the rating of the company, and many people even began to compare it with EA Games, not once recognized as the worst studio.

What did Ubisoft do? Janis Mallat, who is the executive director of the company, on behalf of all employees apologized, and also promised to correct all errors made by the developers. Fortunately, this step was not confined to empty words, because players who bought ACU, will be presented to the DLC "The Fallen Kings". The same gamers who forked out and on the Season Pass, will be presented with one of the studio games that the player can choose (Far Cry 4, Crew, Watch_Dogs and others). Well, the apologies turned out to be quite sincere, and the gifts are chic. Nevertheless, everyone knows that the nerve cells are not restored, and the output of Assassins Creed: Unity has selected them very much.

Assassin's Creed: Rogue

This is just a comforting surprise for all those who have not had time to acquire a new generation console or a powerful PC, and therefore continue to be satisfied with the most attractive graphics of the paste gene. In principle, the idea is pretty good, because at the time when comes out Assassins Creed: Unity, there is a fairly large community of people who want to go on an Assassin journey on the old consoles. Considering the novelty without considering last year's Black Flag, you can find a lot of advantages: sea battles, hunting, seamless open world, non-trivial setting and so on. But that's bad luck - in 2013 came out almost the exact copy of the "Outcast", but in the Caribbean scenery. The differences of the game are noticeable only in the plot, but the pitch remained at the same level. The boys from the Bulgarian branch of Ubisoft have copied almost everything: starting from rather monotonous missions and ending with walks around the offices of "Abstergo". Of course, they added a couple of fresh ideas, but they are virtually invisible against the general background. In defense of Rogue, it is worth noting that as a consolation prize the game turned out to be quite good: the maritime theme was given even more attention, the story is sometimes full of fascinating missions, and the new scene does not get bored during the passage. Nevertheless, at the time when Assassins Creed: Unity comes out, the "Outcast" seems tarnished, although, ultimately, it's up to you to decide.

Finally

Ubisoft knows how to make beautiful and exciting games, but the thirst for filling pockets with American rubles often becomes the cause of failure. Give developers one more year, and Assassins Creed: Unity (PC, PS4, XOne) would be one of the best games that ever existed. But it came out raw and unfinished, provoking violent indignation among millions of gamers. But is it all so bad? No, the game turned out to be very beautiful, with thoughtful characters, fascinating plot, various missions and a good cooperative, first appeared in Assassins Creed: Unity. The mechanics of the gameplay have been redesigned, but this did not always have a positive effect on the gameplay. Well, now the army of fans can be divided into 2 groups: those who praise the changes and innovations, and those who want, so that the developers returned everything back. And which side are you on?
