Advice to a beginning gardener. When to transplant the host?

Hosta refers to decorative shade-loving perennial plants. Nature has endowed it with ordinary-looking flowers, preferring bright and diverse in form leaves. Landscapers practice the use of plant bush in garden compositions and the design of flower gardens.

Care of the host does not require much effort. The plant is unpretentious. It lives on any type of soil. With proper care, it grows fast enough. Completely dig up the plant only when transplanting the host in principle is necessary. As a rule, this is a very overgrown bush with intensive coloring and an excessive amount of densely planted leaves.

Transplanted to the host in spring or early autumn. In the summer, this is allowed only when transplanting the host is a step of extreme necessity. For example, to transfer it from the sun to the shade. In this case, a good watering is necessary, so that the plant can adapt in a new place. Blossom transplanted bush only through the season.

Popular among amateur gardeners:

  • Sort of "marginal album". Bright green leaves of lavender form with uneven white fringing.
  • Variety "the night before Christmas." The leaves are dark green with a dense texture and a narrow white stripe starting from the cuttings.
  • Sort of "Alex Summers". A large plant in the form of a vase. Over time, forms an ideal ball. The leaves are blue-green, dark. Each is bordered by a golden strip, the width of which depends on the age of the plant. The name was given on behalf of the first president of the American Host Club.
  • Variety "the moon of August". Large thin leaves have a yellow-green color. The flower is tall, white, fairly large.
  • A variety of "blinding glitter". Hybrid hosts are sort of "Alex Summers". Also has a wide bordering sheet, only not white, but golden in color.

The host is rightly considered the queen of shady sites. Using a variety of coloring of leaves and alternating varieties of hosts, you can create a unique composition on the plot. When it is designed, there are always a lot of questions. For example, what measures are taken when transplanting the host is necessary in the adult state? In this case, the plant is transferred to a new site with a coma of the basal land.

The host multiplies by a simple division of the rhizome with an acute knife:

  1. From the mother plant all leaves are removed. It is partially dug.
  2. Determine and cut off part of the root with the daughter kidney.
  3. The cut-off point of the daughter bush is greased with greenery or a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
  4. Maternal rhizome back fall asleep, and the daughter is put in a pot of garden soil and cleaned in the refrigerator until early March.
  5. At the end of this period, the pot is removed from the refrigerator, and the host's house is grown as an indoor plant.
  6. When the host gets stronger, it is planted in the open ground.

And yet there are exceptions. Hybrids can only be transplanted in the fall. In these varieties of hosts, the formation of new roots begins after all the leaves have dissolved. The ideal period when the hybrid can be transplanted to the host can be without risk, it is considered the middle of August - the beginning of September. The intensive growth of the roots of hybrid varieties in the autumn period will allow the plant to adapt long before the onset of the cold season.
