The actor was born in 1958 in the capital of the Armenian SSR - the city of Yerevan. When he was in high school, he was carried away by the popular KVN game, and also began to study in the theatrical circle and participated in stage improvisations. His passion was so strong that he, despite the lack of mathematical abilities, decided to enter the Polytechnic Institute to participate in games of cheerful and resourceful. However, after two years of study, Grant Tohatyan realized that higher education is much more important than the game, and went to the liberal arts university, the Institute of Foreign Languages, to the Faculty of Russian Philology. After graduation, he was identified as a Russian language teacher in a rural school (times were Soviet). He liked to teach children. He even managed to work as director of studies. However, he lacked creativity, and he dreamed of being back on stage. At that time, the Chamber Theater was taking its first steps in Yerevan. Its creators were former kavenschiki - friends of Grant. And when one night, Louise was bitten by a scorpion and died, then Grant Tohatyan decided that this is the same woman on which he must certainly marry.

The actor has three children, and all from different marriages. Arusyak gave birth to Aram's son. This is the pride of Grant. He is engaged in producing activities. The middle son of Aik was born into a second marriage with Irina Danielyan, and his youngest child, Lilith, was born when the actor nearly 50 years ago.
