A. S. Pushkin "The Captain's Daughter". Formation of the personality of Peter Grinev

In the story "Captain's Daughter" AS Pushkin touches on the very important for him and his countrymen the problem of nobility's honor. Showing the gradual formation of the personality of Peter Grinev, the protagonist of the work, the author outlines the Russian national character, which is characterized by such qualities as kindness, nobility, honesty, loyalty to this word and the sovereign. Only after passing through difficult life tests, the young nobleman becomes as we see him in the finale.

Life in the Father's House

The text of the story is a memoir written on behalf of the protagonist, which gives the described events greater certainty: no one can talk about a man better than himself.

Petrusha received a traditional education for noblemen. A kind Uncle Savelich, who accompanied the young man and after his departure for service, was attached to him. He was taught by the French hairdresser Beaupre, who could not give a solid education. The boy lived inexpensively, carefree and without thinking about the future.

Even before his birth, his father had written his son to the Semenov regiment. But when Peter Grinev reached the age of sixteen, he decided to send him not to Petersburg, but to Orenburg, under the supervision of an old acquaintance. Thus, the fate of the young nobleman was predetermined.

Entering an independent life

The main parting word given by the father, seeing off his son: "Take care ... honor from the youth." This principle Peter will follow all his life. In the meantime, he looks more like a spoiled little bag. For the first time he gets drunk and loses to the unfamiliar Zurin a hundred rubles, then demands from Savelich to obligatorily pay his debt. Insists on an urgent departure to the Belogorsky fortress, where he was identified in Orenburg, and falls into a heavy snowstorm. But now the formation of the personality of Peter Grinev begins. He suffers, realizing his guilt before a loyal uncle, and asks him for forgiveness - the ability to admit his mistakes. Gives the leader, who helped them get out of the storm, with a sheepskin - thanks for the help.

Love Test

In Belogorskaya fortress, life brings Peter Grinev with the glorious family of Captain Mironov and the faint-hearted Shvabrin. Acts of the latter to a greater extent shade the noble features of the protagonist. Both fall in love with Masha Mironov, but if Shvabrin descends to baseness, after receiving a refusal, Grinev is ready at the cost of his own life to defend the honor of his beloved girl. This happens in the case of a duel, when the hero calls on the duel more experienced opponent, insulting to Masha. And at a time when the fortress includes the Pugachevites.

Shvabrin not only turns to their side, but also deceives the defenseless girl in confinement, and then announces that she is the daughter of an executed commandant. Quite different in the current situation is the characteristic of Peter Grinev. He has to make a difficult choice between the duty of an officer, obliging him to go to the unit, and the desire to protect his beloved. While the hero is confident that Masha is not threatened, he travels to Orenburg, but at the first call, without receiving the support and understanding from the command, he returns to the fortress. The protagonist will also stop at trial, when the accusation of treason on the denunciation of the same Shvabrin can cost him his life. After all, to tell you why he went to the fortress to Pugachev meant to involve the commandant's daughter in an unpleasant story. And only the meeting between Masha and the Empress will help restore justice and justify the hero.

Thus, the next stage, when the formation of the personality of Peter Grinev, is his love, sincere and unselfish. She turned yesterday's mischief into a noble person, capable of taking responsibility for another person.

Acquaintance with Pugachev

During the capture of the Belogorsky fortress, Grinev shows firmness of character, loyalty to the oath and empress, courage. Of course, a certain role in the fact that he was not executed along with the others was played by a hare sheepskin presented by Peter to the leader on the way to the fortress. But the young officer refused to kiss the impostor's hand and swear allegiance to him. It was this moral stamina and the readiness to accept death for their convictions that determined Pugachev's attitude towards Grinev. And the ability to always tell the truth, sincerity in everything and the feeling of complete inner freedom. This may be a characteristic of Peter Grinev in the chapters, which describe his meetings with the impostor. Indeed, not everyone invited the last for his desk, released on all four sides after refusing to go to his service, gave a blessing to marry the daughter of the commandant of the military fortress.

The image of Peter Grinev in the story "The Captain's Daughter": conclusions

Thus, during the described events the character of the protagonist undergoes changes. And several moments in this process are important. Firstly, the reasonable decision of the father, who sent his son not to St. Petersburg, where idle life and amusements waited for him, but to a deaf fortress, in fact became the place where he pulled the strap and sniffed powder. Secondly, the era itself and an important historical event - an uprising led by Pugachev. Only in difficult life situations, as a rule, the true character traits of a person are manifested. In this case, the carefree little boy turned into a real man.

Defining the ideological plan of A. Pushkin, it can be noted that the gradual formation of Peter Grinev's personality was to reveal in the hero those features that every Russian nobleman should possess. And the main of them - "two wonderful qualities": kindness and nobility. It is their Peter Grinev who would like to see in his descendants. This wish of the author of the memoirs, which completed the draft version of the story, was excluded with the last edition of the "Captain's Daughter".
