A compromise attitude is the ability to find a mutually beneficial solution

Compromise is not sacrificing one's own interests for the benefit of another person, as many think. These are mutual concessions, the ability to find a solution that suits both parties concerned. A compromise attitude is an opportunity to preserve one's freedom, to uphold one's principles without creating conflict situations. But do mutual concessions always benefit?

From the early childhood a person is taught that any situation can be solved with the help of a conversation. Now you give in to your opponent, then he will give in something to you. Of course, such a judgment is true, but not everyone knows how to agree in such a way as to satisfy all interested parties. And the one who owns this skill, can with the least losses get out practically from any situation.

Compromise or weak will

A compromise attitude does not mean abandoning one's own ideas for the sake of another person. For example, consider this situation. Let's say two friends decided to go somewhere together. But their taste preferences do not coincide, one likes cinema, another theater. And one of them, having decided not to create a controversial situation, instead of going to see the new film, agrees to visit the theater. What's the result? One of the girlfriends will spend time completely differently than she would like, that is, her interests will not be satisfied. Consequently, in this case it is worth talking about a concession, and not a compromise. A compromise attitude is when all parties are satisfied. That is, if the girlfriends decided to go to a cafe or a museum (which one likes both), the evening would be wonderful for both parties, and no one would be offended.

In which case should we compromise

What does compromise mean? This is when the needs of all opponents are taken into account. But does it always make sense to look for the right solution for everyone? There are such situations when the question being solved is not principled for you. And in this case, you can make concessions. But it should not be conceded if the decision made can affect events in the future or change you as a person. Do not compromise and as a result of pressure, in the event that a person does not compromise his interests, and from you requires any concessions. A compromise attitude is a mutually beneficial solution to the issue, and the previous situation is just an attempt to manipulate you.

Compromise in relation to alcohol and smoking

With a question - to drink or not to drink - a large number of people face daily. There are plenty of places to drink. But if a person does not drink at all, then no holidays and dates will drive him astray. That is, everything depends on the principles that have developed during his life. The same can be said about smoking. The compromise attitude to smoking is a conscious choice of each person to smoke or not. As with alcohol: everyone decides for himself whether to drink or not to drink. The question arises, what is the difference between a compromise and a deliberate decision. In this case, the choice is due to the stresses that exist in the life of each person. Unmet needs and desires corrode our psyche from the inside, and people use alcohol or smoking to dull the feeling of stress and relax. If we talk about a compromise attitude, then in a stressful situation it gives us the right to decide how to act: as you want, or as circumstances require or expect people around you.
