"X-Files": roles and actors. "X-Files": Seasons

The cult-fiction American series "The X-Files" was invented by Chris Carter. The pilot series was first shown in 1993 by Fox, and the show ended after a long nine years, in 2002. Over this period, more than 200 episodes were shot. Based on his motives, the full-length film "The X-Files: The Struggle for the Future" (1998) and "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" (2008) was filmed.

Description: main idea

"X-Files" is a series that can also be called mystical and sci-fi. The whole storyline is built on the relationship, teamwork and adventures of two main characters, FBI agents: Dana Scully and Fox Mulder.

One day, the instructor of the FBI Academy in Virginia, special agent Danu Scully, is appointed as a partner by Fox Mulder. Together they have to work on the "X-Files" project, which compiles an archive of mysterious agency affairs related to paranormal and supernatural phenomena: vampirism, werewolves, genetic mutations and, of course, extraterrestrial aliens.

Scully is quite skeptical and is always looking for a scientific explanation for what is happening, Mulder believes in the belief in aliens and tries to persuade his partner. The point is the mental trauma that Fox suffered in his youth, connected with the unclear and obscure circumstances of the disappearance of his younger sister. Mulder is sure that the aliens have abducted her. Investigating each new case, partners get closer, enjoy the communication. Gradually, mutual suspicion, caution and mistrust turn into a strong, loyal friendship, afterwards there appears a hint of a more romantic and deep feeling. Surprisingly, for 9 seasons the central characters were played by the same actors. "The secret materials" could continue and further, because the viewer's interest in supernatural phenomena is not quenched.

Mythology of the series and monsters of the week

Episodes of the series can be divided into two parts. One of them tells about the story line, which is called the mythology of the series - throughout all the seasons she talks about Scully and Mulder, trying to uncover the secrets of a secret government organization that is silent about the facts of the invasion of alien civilizations on the planet Earth. The second part of the series narrates about the investigations of agent-partners, connected with the "monsters of the week", they often do not come into contact with mythology. But some series have an indirect connection with the mythological plot line, for example intrigues and conspiracies in the US government and inside the FBI, the personal life of both secondary characters and protagonists. Therefore, in order to fully understand and appreciate the artistic value of the series, you need to watch all the series completely and do not try to divide the story into a non-mythological and mythological one. By the end of the series reveals its essence, which explains most of the events taking place in it. The idea of the authors is that the truth is vague and eludes at the last moment.

Roll calls and rooted ideas

The Carter formula for success is not new and not original, it was masterfully used by David Lynch in Twin Pix, Steven Spielberg in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," and a host of other filmmakers around the world. The fact is that the plot is based on the ideas about the surrounding world adapted for the understanding of the inhabitants as a testing ground for the struggle between Darkness and Light, Good and Evil, the Devil and God. For example, in the debut series of "Materials" immediately there is a roll call with "Twin Pix" - in both movie masterpieces, heroes suffer from an invisible evil force, as if spilled in the air. And the second and fourth episodes have a direct resemblance to the creation of Spielberg, mentioned above. And the third episode is mused by a somewhat boring plot about "body kidnappers and intrusion" (there were already a lot of films with this idea). It is not accidental that the actors are selected. "X-Files" used the most successful option - a man and a woman, companions, a skeptic and an enthusiast. All these references and roll calls are not indicative of brazen plagiarism and borrowing, but rather of the rootedness of these ideas in the self-consciousness of the modern spectator. The desire for mysticism, unknown and unknown, interest in occultism and esotericism accompanies humanity from the very beginning of civilization and does not weaken.

Main characters. Fox Mulder

Fox William Mulder (David Duchovny) - special agent of the FBI. He was the central character for the first seven seasons, the last two appeared episodically in the frame. He believes in an alien presence on Earth and in a conspiracy whose purpose is to deny and hide the truth of the existence of UFOs. The secret materials become for the agent the most important priority, the meaning of life. Despite his cynical sense of humor and some alienation, Fox shows enthusiasm and unbridled interest when it comes to paranormal phenomena, mainly because of his sister's abduction. He always trusts his feelings and intuition during the investigation. But his emotional attachment to UFO affairs is getting stronger throughout the series, as he is also experiencing the kidnapping of his partner, her cancer. In the seventh season, Mulder increasingly loses control, especially when Scully is in danger, becomes aggressive and threatens with weapons.

The role of Fox Mulder David Duchovny played amazingly, and she made him a world-class star. But after the release of the seventh season, the actor said that he wants to "move on", his decision significantly affected the development of the events of the 8th and 9th seasons of the series.

Dana Scully

Dana Catherine Scully (Gillian Anderson) is a special FBI agent from the "Materials" and in combination the main character in the two films that were shot on his basis. Scully and her partner, Fox Mulder, work together for seven seasons, but Dogne's eighth partner is Doggett. In the series, their headquarters is in the basement in Washington, they are investigating undisclosed cases that have been marked "classified materials." Scully appears in the image of a skeptic for seven seasons and believes that everything can be explained with the help of science, unlike gullible Mulder. At the end of Season 8, after Mulder was abducted, Scully also becomes "believer". Gillian Anderson is surprisingly beautiful, which sometimes prevented her from embodying the image of a strict FBI agent. The main character is present in almost every series of the television series "The X-Files" and the films released by the film company "XX Century Fox": "Travelers", "Zero Total", "3", "Unusual Suspects", "X-Files: I Want to Believe" "The X-Files: Battle for the Future". Her appearance was exceptionally episodic only in a series called "Dar" in the recollections of recurring frames from the previous series.

Walter Skinner

Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileji) is the deputy director of the FBI and the chief agents of Scully and Mulder. He served in the Marines, fought in Vietnam, but was demobilized because of a serious wound. In the third season (21 series) it turns out that he is married to Sharon Skinner. Also he was treated for a frustration of dreams - visions of an old woman - a succubus. He is in good physical shape, despite his age: doing boxing and running. After Mitch Pileggi appears in the films "Fight for the future" and "I want to believe."

First Skinner was the direct leader of Fox in his work on the project "X-Files". Until the end it is not clear whether he was under the control of the Smoker and the higher leadership or was independent in his actions and actions. After some time, he begins to trust Scully and Mulder, becomes their ally, even tries to confront the conspirators on several occasions, for which he pays.

John Doggett

John Jay Doggett (Robert Patrick) - special agent of the FBI, appears on the series in the 8th and 9th seasons. Served in the US Army, holds a master's degree from the University of Syracuse. At the beginning of his career he worked as a detective in the police of New York, was engaged in the search for runaway criminals. In 2000, John Doggett leads an operation to search for special agent Fox Mulder, but after a failure, he is transferred to the "X-Files" project as Dana Scully's new partner. Between them a certain distrust arises at once. The new partner is always skeptical, but now Dana has become a "believer". Robert Patrick, although he created a charismatic image, could not replace Dukhovny. After Scully's departure, John very often appeals to her for help in the investigations. However, after the imposition of the death sentence on Fox in 2002, Doggett helps him escape. And after returning to the department together with the new partner Monica Reis, they discover the loss of all the documentation. It is not known how the fate of the hero developed.

Monica Reis

Monica Reis (Annabeth Gish) is a special FBI agent working with John Doggett in the secret materials department. She became the main character in the last ninth season, replacing Scully. For the first time as an FBI agent, she appears in season 8 in the series "This does not happen." The voyage is highly spiritual and religious, it practically does not doubt the existence of supernatural phenomena. The heroine Annabeth Gish combines the traits of different team members, that is, she is not completely "believing" like Mulder and does not rely solely on science like Scully, but is not as skeptical as Doggett. Curiously, in the filmography of the actress dominated by motion pictures in the genres of comedy, drama, short film. What is not surprising, all the performers of the main roles have different filmography, different characters, and they are such unlike actors.

"Secret materials". Smoker

The character of the television series, included TV Guide in the list of the 60 most harmful, mysterious and nasty villains of all time - the Smoker. It was played by William B. Davis. Despite the fact that in the first season of his character said only a few words, he immediately turned into one of the main opponents of the main characters. His silence and silent presence only strengthen emotional tension. The smoker appears invariably with a burning cigarette, no one knows his name. The main antagonist is the representative of the United States in a secret organization (Consortium), which deals with everything related to aliens. Her tactics are ruthless and murderous simple: "there is no witness - no problem".

Return

The television series, unfortunately an impressive army of fans, was eventually sacrificed to increased claims, including those that the actors put forward. The "secret materials" seemed to Duchovny and Anderson to be trapped, they were tired of being held hostage by one role, they wanted diversity. However, 13 years after the closure, Fox announces the return of the cult project in the form of a mini-series, only six episodes, which will be shot in the summer of 2015.
