Windows system update 10 and 7: step-by-step instructions, recommendations

Absolutely for all operating systems, regardless of their versions and assemblies, Microsoft Corporation with an enviable consistency releases packages of updates and service packs. The seventh and tenth versions in this respect are not an exception. But more often than not, the standard version basically installs Windows security updates and some specific platforms that are necessary for their proper operation.

System Update Options

Proceeding from the fact that now it will be considered the "seven" and "ten", let's try to suggest the main versions of updates, found in practice. There are only three of them:

  • Installing updates for Windows 7.
  • Install the same items for Windows 10.
  • Update the "seven" to "dozens."

Let's consider each variant separately. And at the same time, we will analyze some problems that may arise in this or that situation, especially since many of them are absolutely identical (even the errors have the same codes).

Upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 10

About how the system of the seventh version is being upgraded to the tenth one, a lot is written. Initially, it was assumed that the user who expressed the desire to install Windows 10 on top of the "seven", after registering on the site, Microsoft becomes in the queue and waits for its hour, when the upgrade will be available to him. The installation was completely automatic and did not require any special user participation.

In the meantime, a special utility called Media Creation Tool was developed. It allowed not to wait for the activation of the installation of Windows 10, and install it immediately. It is noteworthy that even now this utility works fairly tolerably. Only the period during which you can return to the old system has been reduced. Now it is 30 days.

If the user has problems with the new system, or she just did not like it, you can completely reverse the transition, eliminating the installation of the "tens" by the system itself. Provided that the old Windows 7 files were not deleted. In the case when the new Windows did not start, you could come back by restoring the system from the console on the boot disk. But now we will talk specifically about updates of working systems. After all, they deliver the most trouble. If the upgrade does not happen at all, you first need to update the "seven" itself, and only then put the tenth version.

Upgrade to Windows 7 or 10

By default, after installation in any Windows OS, automatic update installation mode is enabled. To do this, the main condition is the presence of a permanent or at least temporarily active connection to the Internet.

At certain points, Windows 7 tells the user that the system update has been found and is ready to be installed. It remains only to activate the process of installing updates by clicking on the corresponding message in the form of a pop-up window in the system tray.

Updating the Windows 10 system is done in a slightly different way. Here, the availability notification is disabled. A confirmation of the installation is not required. Only after installation, the system reports that such and such packages were installed. In particular, this applies to situations where a PC or laptop is in sleep mode. Sometimes, when the user is going to shut down the computer, you may receive a disconnection suggestion with the installation of updates. Here you just need to agree. Then everything will be done automatically.

Typical errors during the upgrade

Unfortunately, none of the existing versions of Windows is immune from the occurrence of failures when installing update packages. At best, a message appears that a system update error has occurred. It indicates the number of the failure. At worst, the system does not work at all. The most common are faults with error numbers 643 and 800b0100 (they will be discussed a little later).

The easiest solution to fix the problems is to enter the update center section and check for manual updates. If the search succeeds, just press the setup button and wait for the process to finish. Incidentally, it is worth checking the Internet connection, otherwise this may cause a failure.

If the system update was unsuccessful, and the error message 643 was indicated in the message, the reason is an outdated version of the Microsoft.NET Framework. It needs to be updated by first downloading the latest version from the company's website, and then completely deleting the old one from the programs and components section or using a third-party uninstaller for this.

The occurrence of a failure with code 800b0100 indicates that the system itself has a problem with the update center itself. You can, of course, use a rollback to the previous state, but there is no guarantee of its restoration. Therefore, it's easiest to turn to automated utilities like Microsoft Fix It! Or Microsoft System Update Readiness Tool, which will fix the problem without user intervention.

After the upgrade, the system does not work: what to do first?

But there are absolutely unpleasant situations when after updating Windows the system does not start (and in general "hangs" at a stage of loading). This can also be handled.

The simplest thing is to use recovery. If the system does not automatically submit a proposal, you can select the boot option that is used to enter safe mode. For Windows 7, this is the F8 key, for Windows 10, the process is more complicated (this is not the case now). The action selection window uses the recovery line of the last successful configuration.

If this method does not work, you can first boot into safe mode. And then restore the system from the corresponding section already in the "Control Panel". If this does not work, experts advise using any installation disk. With it, at boot, access to the console (R key) is selected, and then the command line is called. It prescribes rstrui.exe. After entering this command, you enter the rollback section to the previous state.

Deleting Updates

Quite often, the cause of failures can be the very update of the system, more precisely - some installed packages. They need to be removed and refused to be reinstalled.

This is done in the same section of the update center, where you select to view the installed updates. Alternately, you need to delete each of them, overloading the system to verify its operation. As soon as the update that caused the violation of the work will be found, it must be isolated, re-specifying a manual search, and then putting the "bird" opposite the desired package. After that, you should install all other updates.

Installing fresh drivers

Finally, updating the system as new packages may conflict with device drivers. It turns out that their version just does not meet the technical requirements of the updated components of the system. Doing manual search and installing new versions of drivers, and even without knowing which one is conflicting, is a thankless task. For these purposes it is best to use utilities like Driver Booster. Such programs find updated drivers and integrate them into the system without user intervention. And the download is made from official resources of equipment manufacturers on the Internet. In addition, in this way you can update all obsolete drivers, as they say, in one fell swoop.

Conclusion

Here in brief and all that can be said about Windows updates and the solution of some problems associated with them. The above methods are universal for all versions. True, the issues related to viruses, Windows boot loader damage and some other aspects were not considered here, and only the most common situations are given as examples.
