Which arches in the house is best? Types, installation, finishing

By arranging a dwelling, a person strives to create a comfortable, original and stylish interior. The insulation of rooms today is not so popular, that's why when decorating rooms apply a smooth transition of one room to another. This allows you to create a single space without walls.

As an alternative solution arches are in the house that are able to simultaneously unite and isolate space. Choosing an arch construction, you will understand that there are a lot of them today. Find a suitable option is not difficult, one of them you can certainly fit into your interior.

Varieties of arches by forms

As the main difference between the arches is the arch. Its shape allows us to refer the design to one or another variety, among them:

  • classic;
  • romance;
  • Trapezium;
  • portal;
  • Modern;
  • ellipse;
  • Half-arches.

The classic solution is today the most popular and represents an opening that can be inscribed in any interior. In this case, the radius of the portal is rounded and equal to half the width of the opening. The arch in the romantic style has a rectangular arch. This solution can be resorted to in the design of a wide opening.

The trapezoidal arch speaks for itself, but the portal is executed in the form of a rectangle and is most simple in execution. You will not need additional labor, because you will not have to make out the corners. Arches in the house are often decorated in the Art Nouveau style, which is a cross between the portal and the classics. The roundness of the vault here is less pronounced than in the classical variety, but to an ideal rectangle this arch is far away.

The identical to the previous model is an ellipse, as the only difference is the large radius of curvature in the angular region. An example of asymmetric solutions is semi-arches, one part of which repeats the portal arch, while the other is modern or classical.

Varieties of arches on the materials used

Arches in the house can be made of different materials, among them:

  • a rock;
  • wood;
  • brick;
  • Drywall.

The latter material is used quite often for the reason that it is easy to process, and when exposed to moisture it is able to apply a variety of forms. As soon as the sheets can be converted, they should be fixed to the installed frame. It is made of metal, and the formed joints can be covered with putty. At the final stage, such an arch is covered with the same materials used for decorating the walls. If you have a certain experience, then it will be quite easy to work with plasterboard.

Features of wooden arches

An arch of wood with your own hands can be fully installed. Such designs differ from the door with wide platbands. The system turns out to be practical, because it is less susceptible to damage in comparison with gypsum plasterboard analogues. But with changes in temperature and humidity, cracks can form on the wood, this can be avoided by treating the material with special compounds.

Today, the arch of wood can be installed from the glued lumber by hand. In this case, it will be possible to achieve a reduction in the cost, and in terms of quality, such structures hardly differ from wooden ones.

Features of stone and brick arches

The most interesting design solution can be called arches made of stone or brick. These systems are faced with tiles that mimic natural material. This method is relevant when it is required to decorate an existing opening. If it is necessary to change the configuration of the opening, you can avoid plastering part of the wall around the arch by laying a stone or brick on the surface.

Arch Parameters

Door arches should have certain dimensions, which depend on the features of the room. The width of the opening you can choose yourself, but the height will be limited by overlap. If the height is 2500 mm or 3200 mm, then the optimum height of the arch is 2200 mm or 2600 mm, respectively.

Preparing for the installation of arches from plywood: materials and tools

Door arches can be made by yourself, having prepared:

  • Plywood;
  • Wooden bars;
  • Perforator;
  • Electric drill;
  • A jigsaw;
  • Stool;
  • Milling machine;
  • Nails;
  • Grinding machine;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Akvalak;
  • Mastic for grouting joints;
  • liquid Nails;
  • Mounting foam;
  • Twine;
  • pencil;
  • building level.

When preparing plywood, it is necessary to be guided by the following dimensions: sheets should have a thickness of 18 to 21 mm, while their parameters will be 2.44 x 1.22 m. Such sheets will need 5 pieces. With the same dimensions, you should also prepare 3 mm plywood.

Prepare a Template

You can make arches in a wooden house from any materials, but as the most optimal will be plywood. Before starting work, you should prepare a template, it will allow you to correctly cut the platbands. To do this, from the long side of the plywood is necessary to cut a 6-cm strip, the length of which should be greater than the width of the doorway by 1/3.

If the plywood of this size is not found, you can connect two strips. At the junction, the elements are joined by nuts or small bolts. As a result, it will be possible to obtain a long blank whose width will be greater than the width of the opening. This element is applied between the sides of the opening, and the curvature can be selected at will, reinforced with a twine.

Cutting the clypeus

Having considered all kinds of arches in the house, you can find the most suitable option for yourself. If you plan to perform an arc-shaped construction, then the next step on a flat surface is to place a sheet of thick plywood, attaching a template to it. If one sheet was not enough, then you should attach 2 or 3.

The template is positioned so that the sides of the plywood are equal. The contours of the lower part of the clypeus can be marked with a pencil. The master should retreat 10 cm, drawing a contour of the clypeus. In size, the curvature can be cut with an electric jigsaw.

It will take two identical pieces, each of which will go to its side of the arch. Great, if you get an arc from one piece. To obtain such an arch, you will need to match pieces of different curvature. The cutter will allow to cut a groove in one workpiece, while in the other one - a ledge, which should form a large segment. Elements are glued together into one, for this you need to pick up a good glue, pressing the workpieces with clamps. Once the glue has solidified, you can proceed to further gluing the arc. The edge of the clypeus is treated with a milling cutter, and then grinded.

Work on vertical platbands

Arch in the panel house can be made according to the technology presented in the article. At the next stage you will need to cut out the vertical platbands. They should be 4, and for manufacturing, you should use thick plywood. The height should be more by 20 cm. Now the turn of the curved arch of the arch came. Make it out of thick plywood, otherwise the design will look cheap decoration.

The width of the arch will be equal to the width of the wall in which the opening is set. The simplest way to make bent plywood is a longitudinal cut. Then the elements should be bent by the template. Cuttings can be made with a router, and the distance between them is 2 cm.

Before bending the arch, it is necessary to practice on unnecessary pieces of thick plywood. You can improve the results by wetting the element with water or steaming it before folding. In the next step, using a template, you can perform a workpiece with standard curvature. Grooves before gluing are glued with glue.

Arch Mounting

Installing an arch in the house is the most important process. For this, the side parts of the racks are made. On thick plywood, you should perform the marking by cutting the boards with a jig saw to a width equal to the arcuate vault. The prepared parts are ground and sized. The resulting gaps are filled with a special mastic, and the structure itself is reinforced with the finishing nails or screws, which are then closed with plastic caps.

Details of the arch can be fixed with mounting foam. Before the time of its hardening, it is necessary to install spacers from the rails. To the arch the clypeus is fixed by the finishing nails. On this we can assume that the design is ready.

Decorating arches

Decorating arches in the house today is conducted by different materials, but one of the most popular in recent years is polyurethane. From it, stucco molding, gables of houses, elements of decorations of pilasters, columns and arches are made. The cost of this option is much lower compared to the decor of stone and wood.

Installation is quite simple, using liquid nails for this. Additional decoration is not required, and the surface of the elements can be painted. You can install polyurethane decorative elements only on the end parts or on the outside. Vertical racks are often designed as round or square columns with a bell. Before you make an arch in the house, you need to think about what material will be used in the final stage.

Classics in this matter is a stone. However, it can be used only on those arches that are located in the openings of monolithic partitions and load-bearing walls. Gypsum plasterboard hollow partitions can not withstand such a design, so it is better for them to use artificial stone or flexible acrylic tiles.

Conclusion

Choosing the decoration for the arch, you can pay attention to the materials that occupy today the leading positions, among them: travertine, shell rock, slate, marble, as well as granite. Prefering such a solution, you can choose not only the shade, but also the texture, which is clearly polished or rough and unfinished.
