In the north of the country was Galilee, where near the Jews lived representatives of the Greek diaspora, natives of Phenicia and Syria, Arabs. The religious tolerance of the Galileans towards their neighbors was blamed by the inhabitants of Judea, they considered the northern kinsmen to be people of a lower grade, but nevertheless communicated with them.

The power in Judea at that time was usurped by Herod the Great. He was a great villain and wicked. Afraid to lose power, he executed all his relatives, his wife, his sons.
