Where are the Carlsbad Caverns

Carlsbad Caverns is a landmark that is in New Mexico, in America. And this is not only an interesting place to visit in this part of the United States. This is also the largest cave systems, representing wild interest for archaeologists and lovers of such natural finds.

The value of the world scale

All people, who are interested in archeology, know where the Carlsbad caves are. Speaking more competently, this is the National Park, which is a long chain of eighty caves of various sizes. Their total length is more than 12 kilometers. One has only to imagine how great this distance is. This immediately makes it clear that the Carlsbad Caves are the National Park, which is truly impressive in scale. In addition, do not forget that all this is deep underground. By the way, the depth of occurrence is also quite high - more than 500 meters. So it's no wonder that many people are interested in the question of where the Carlsbad caves are. If possible, they should definitely be visited.

Art created by nature itself

It is worth noting that not only the huge scale is attractive for tourists. After all, inside the caves themselves - indescribable beauty. A variety of rocks that appear on their walls, intertwine with each other and form incredibly picturesque drawings and patterns. This is the creation of nature itself, and you can watch for hours without stopping to look at these creations. It's like an artist painted these walls with his tassel. The pictures combine different colors - it's purple, and gray, and blue, and golden. Overflowing with different shades, they play on the ceilings and arches. All this can be seen with your own eyes, visiting the Carlsbad caves. Photos of this landmark, no matter how good and bright they may be, will not be able to fully convey its luxury and scale.

Interesting Facts

All this, of course, is interesting, but there is still something that attracts attention. For example, the age of these caves. Scientists claim that they are more than 250 million years old! This figure seems simply unrealistic. After all, it turns out that the Carlsbad caves existed until the time came a new era, even before the birth of Jesus Christ, the Buddha and Mohammed! Such data is really impressive, and this is direct proof that the caves will stand still for a very long time. Who knows, maybe they are eternal? After all, they existed even when there was no Tire, Babylon, Pyramids and Stonehenge (and these ancient sights arose a long time ago, the latter, for example, arose in the III-II century BC).

By the way, it is also interesting how this cave system arose. If you believe the research conducted by scientists, in the distant past, the sea was splashing on these places. And where the caves are now, there was a coral reef. Naturally, the sea dried up with time - a desert was formed. But the reef is still there. It covered with lime and hardened. And thanks to natural phenomena , the present caves were formed. By the way, these ancient caves are by no means lifeless. They are inhabited by bats - there are only 16 species, and the total population is more than one million! Such living creatures of some tourists are frightening, and others, on the contrary, inspire. Many specially go here not to admire the caves - they prefer to see fluttering of bats. The most impressive flights of these creatures can be observed in August and September - it was during this time that the offspring that was born in the beginning of summer, only begins to join the parents and relatives, then leaves the caves, migrating to the south.

How to get there?

So, it was said that Carlsbad Caverns (USA) are in New Mexico. This state is called the mountain not without reason. The bridge over the Rio Grande gorge, rock outcrops, caves, Petroglyph, Aztec ruins, Kapulin volcano - and this is not all the list of attractions that nature has awarded to the state of New Mexico. Carlsbad Caves are the most convenient way to get from the city of El Paso (Texas). This is a large metropolis, which, during the development of the Wild West, became known as a favorite place for robbers and adventurers. From the caves it is quite far away - in 190 kilometers. But it is from it that they usually get to them - along the Highway-180. She leads to the National Park. Or you can fly to Albuquerque (the Bernalillo administrative center), and then rent a car and get there yourself.

Interesting places

Of course, the entire cave chain is very interesting. However, some places are worth noting separately. For example, the Cave of the Massacre at the Canyon. There is no lighting and paths - absolutely wild terrain. Her tourists are shown by the park ranger. Also interesting is the cave Lechugia, which was discovered quite recently - in 1986. It is still being investigated, because it is the deepest of the existing ones. It is still closed for public tourist visits. This is done in order to keep the cave untouched. Lechugia occupies the fifth place in the rating of the longest caves in the world. And for the United States - the third.

Official status

Of course, caves have not always been as prestigious as the National Park. It must be earned, but they succeeded. In 1930, the US Congress approved the Carlsbad Caverns as a National Park, and since then this title has become entrenched. Since that moment, the National Park Service has been following this natural sight. By the way, it's not just being watched. Caves are regularly studied, in their depths, various studies are carried out (of course, safe, since no matter how long they stand, care must be taken to avoid critical situations). Expeditions are attended only by speleologists, who are high-class specialists in their field. They continue to reveal new caves to the world, pleasing ordinary people and scientists with unexplored discoveries. Such finds include the Guadalupe Room. This is not just a discovery. This is the second largest room pertaining to the Carlsbad Cavern.
