What is Skinny Concrete?

Each type of construction involves the use of certain technologies and materials. So it is not always necessary to use ordinary concrete for the arrangement of various structures. It can be replaced by another type of building compound, which is easier to process and manufacture. And these conditions are met by lean concrete. And it finds wide application due to its properties.

Skinny concrete is a type of building mixture in which the percentage of binder is much less than the content of filler. It does not have high strength. But its main advantages are low price and convenient styling. It belongs to the class of heavy materials B5, B7.5, B10, B12.5, B15. He received the widest application in private house-building, since his strength characteristics are quite sufficient for this area. Also this type of mortar is called rollable. This is due to the fact that it is often used in road construction, since it can easily be rolled out by a road roller.

Consistency in the volume of components used for lean concrete is: 1 share of cement, 3 - sand and 6 - filler. So for mixing 1 cubic meter of solution, 160 kilograms of cement, 2200 kilograms of sand and filler, and water in the volume of 75 liters are required. Sometimes to save cement, special plasticizers are added to the solution. It is very important to take into account that the content of various dust-like and clay particles in the entire solution does not exceed 10%. Otherwise, the quality of the finished product will be low. Depending on the size of the filler, which is part of lean concrete, it is divided into fine-grained and coarse-grained. The first consists of granules up to 5 mm, and the second - up to 40 mm. After mixing, the solution should be similar in consistence to wet ground.

Skinny concrete, whose composition contains a small fraction of astringents, is widely used in private house-building. It forms the basis for pouring the foundation or screeds on the terrace and in the house. It is often used to level the floor. From it you can build walls, foundation tapes, crowns of overlapping, as well as the floors themselves, ladders and monolithic bridges. But this is possible only in low-rise construction, because with more substantial loads, the strength characteristics that lean concrete possesses may not be sufficient, which can lead to harmful consequences. The most widely used material found in road construction. It forms the basis for asphalt pavement.

Laying lean concrete should be carried out immediately after its preparation and delivery to the object. If the ambient temperature exceeds 25 degrees, then retarders of hardening are usually added to the solution, which reduce the speed of durability. Their dosage can reach up to 1% of the mass of cement used in the solution. They allow to increase time for transportation and packing from one hour to one and a half. At the same time, the minimum air temperature for performance of work should not be less than 5 degrees.
