What is "svidomye" and how is this term translated?

The concept of "svidomost" was widely spread in the late eighties of the twentieth century, during a period of particularly rapid development of national identity (and, more simply, nationalism) among the indigenous population of the Union republics of the USSR. The idea that they are the true breadwinners of a huge country, most of the territory of which is populated by drunkards and lazy people, was instilled, sometimes even completely open to Kazakhs, Moldovans, Lithuanians, Uzbeks and even Belarusians with Ukrainians. About what "svidomye Ukrainians" as a social phenomenon, and will be discussed.

Nationalism in the Russian Empire

The essence of any nationalism fits perfectly into the simple phrase that the very fact of the birth of a representative of an ethnic group provides preferences, provided that it occurred on its territory. During the existence of the Russian Empire, there were mutual penetrations of cultures and genotypes, but these processes were rather slow. Some national provinces enjoyed such wide autonomy rights that they managed to maintain almost complete monoethnicity (examples are Poland and Finland). No nation in the history of Russia, living on its territory, has not lost its national features, language and culture, while, for example, Britain - in the years of greatest power - destroyed a number of enslaved peoples. Nationalism in Russia was unpopular because of the age-old backwardness of most of the suburbs and the enormous efforts being made to improve them, undertaken by the tsarist government. So what is "svidomye" and where did the conscious representatives of the oppressed peoples come from?

Soviet Ukraine

After the creation of Soviet Ukraine on its territory, the same national policy was carried out as in the whole of the USSR. In Soviet times, the processes of ethnic homogenization went faster, despite the fact that all conditions for the development of national self-consciousness were created. Marxist theory presupposed the "flowering and convergence" of all peoples. On the ground, leading cadres have traditionally been selected from among the local population, in schools, the state languages of the republics were taught without fail, on TV and radio, folk music was constantly broadcast. Specialists and teachers were sent to help industrially backward territories. In 1939, the area of Ukraine and its population increased significantly due to Western regions that had been torn away from Poland.

Ukrainians in Poland

Poles were the first to learn about what "svidomye" are. They were faced with the problem of the struggle for national self-determination long before the Soviet authorities. These processes were accompanied by mutual conflicts and terror. The goal of the Ukrainian underground was to release Polish oppression, which consisted of oppression of the language (mosov) and religious orthodox rites. The national liberation movement took on a fierce character in the pre-war period and reached its apogee during the Second World War, capturing almost the entire post-war decade.

What does a typical Ukrainian look like?

It is time to clarify to those who do not own the "movable", how the "swedish" is translated. In Russian this word means "conscious". This is expressed in different ways, including in the external appearance, in which the most vivid national signs should come to light. The clothing style emphasizes two main lines: European (usually a pair of men and women) and Ukrainian (embroidered shirt, embroidered, with black and red colors in the pattern). Representatives of the stronger sex decorate their faces with mustaches, the edges of which are lowered down and less often - by an oseledtsem, that is, a long chub. But this is all - not the main thing.

What is "svidomy" in political terms

In the USSR, Ukrainian nationalism was suppressed, but not defeated. During the reign of President Yushchenko, he was elevated to the rank of state policy. The very meaning of the state sovereignty of Ukraine lies in the title of the book of another leader of the country, L.D. Kuchma - "Ukraine is not Russia".

Everything is known by small details. If you imagine a country where a significant part of the population goes to the same church, eats the same dishes for the holidays, watches the same films and listens to the same music as the citizens of the neighboring state, and even communicates with one another in the same language, A legitimate question arises about the expediency of the existence of such a subject of international law. Provide sovereignty can only overwhelm the predominance of a new type of person. They should become a mature Ukrainian. Translation into Russian of this political term does not explain anything, it is important to realize that it has its own fundamental difference from Russian people. This can not be achieved without suggesting a sense of superiority (preferably racial). The contemporary Ukrainian is a type that is contemptuous to Russian culture, the Russian language, who voluntarily refused them and actively promotes his own views with all the methods available to him. And what they can be, today it became clear.
