What is Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Dermatitis is an inflammatory process that occurs on the skin as a result of exposure to various chemical and mechanical stimuli, as well as substances of animal and plant origin. Very often, dermatitis is a consequence of the use of drugs, it may well occur after the application of novocaine, iodine and streptocid.

Seborrheic dermatitis (seborrhea) is a disease of the skin that is associated with a deterioration in quality and an increase in the amount of sebum, i.e. With a violation of the sebaceous glands. Seborrhea is almost the most unpleasant and difficult to cure disease of many kinds of dermatitis. Most often, seborrheic dermatitis begins in the puberty period, but its manifestations can be observed throughout the life cycle.

Seborrheic dermatitis: causes of development.

Currently, there is no consensus on the mechanism and causes of this disease. However, it is for certain that genetic factors and staphylococcus sticks play an important role in this process. Quite often, yeast fungus pityrosporum ovale acts as the causative agent of seborrheic dermatitis. In addition, the causes of seborrhea are hormonal disorders in the body, especially if the production of estrogen decreases or the production of androgens increases. Researchers also noted that abnormalities in GIT function lead to the appearance of seborrhea.

Seborrheic dermatitis: symptoms.

Seborrheic dermatitis occurs most often on skin areas with a large number of sebaceous glands (the scalp, eyebrows, cervical, nasolabial, buccal, axillary, inguinal and bovine folds, as well as back and chest). A characteristic feature of seborrhea is profuse dandruff, itching, reddening of the skin and rash of acicular follicular nodules that have a yellow-pink color. After a certain period of time, the disjointed nodules form plaques or rings. In the case when seborrheic dermatitis affects bovine folds, very often there are swelling, painful cracks, yellow scales and crusts. If the scalp is affected, then thinning and thinning of the hair is observed, until they completely fall out.

There are several types of seborrhea: oily (thick or liquid), dry and mixed. Liquid seborrhea often affects girls aged 11-15 years, the secreted fat is liquid. Hair, in patients with this type of seborrhea, very quickly fade, with a slight pressure on the skin from the sebaceous glands a transparent oily liquid flows. Fluid seborrhoea is often accompanied by pyoderma, manifestations of which are intensified during pregnancy and mental exertion.

Thick seborrhea is more common in young people aged 17-22 years, and is characterized by a low elasticity of the skin, an expansion of the mouth of the sebaceous glands, the contents of which have a thick consistency and are difficult to squeeze out. In connection with the violation of the outflow of fluid from the sebaceous glands, dense seborrhea is often complicated by atheromas that are prone to inflammation, abscesses and pyoderma.

Seborrheic dermatitis in dry form is most often observed in children before the onset of puberty, and seborrhea of a mixed type is most common in men - on the scalp there are signs of dry seborrhea, and on the face - greasy.

Seborrheic dermatitis: treatment.

Treachery of seborrhea consists in the rapid acquisition of a chronic form and a high probability of relapse. For the treatment of this disease there are such drugs as "Beefon" and "Soderm", the duration of the course of treatment is four weeks. As an auxiliary tool in the treatment of seborrhea, lotions from infusions of medicinal herbs - sage, grass of the turn and root of the althaea, are well proven .
