The clear advantage of the treatment offered by Ilizarov (Elizarov) is that the device helps the patient walk, thanks to which the muscles work, the skin breathes and the blood circulation functions correctly. Patients at the same time recovered two to three times faster. The compression method of bone compression was supplemented with distraction, or stretching. Elizarov's apparatus, the implantation of which is performed under general or spinal anesthesia and usually without serious complications, allows the fragments to be stretched, slowly, in millimeters per day, distancing them so that the space between them is filled with bone substance, that is, the bone could consolidate.

The regenerative capacity of the bone is higher than that of other tissues of our body. New bone tissue can be distinguished from the old one only by performing a histological analysis. Elimination of numerous birth defects of limbs also became a reality thanks to the adaptation that Elizarov (Elizarov) suggested.
