What are the roller bearings? Tips and Tricks

If you are an active roller and spend a lot of time on your favorite eight wheels - roller bearings will last you an average of 1 season. Of course, if you provide them with good care. But after all, there are a lot of people who put on rollers infrequently and skate only on ideally paved paths. In this case, the bearings can serve for years.

You will easily understand when the time comes for them to change - the wheels just turn around every day worse and worse, despite the fact that they are clean and well oiled.

Also, if you ride in the rain and do not do anything with the rollers on arrival, do not be surprised when after a while the wheels will completely stop spinning. Here you have only one way out - change the bearings.

So if you want to ride for a long time without any problems - try to drive on quality asphalt, avoiding roads, where there is a lot of dust, mud and puddles.

Characteristic

All bearings have their own standards, that is, they have agreed dimensions and characteristics. Bearings for rollers are usually of two types: 608 and 688 classes (so-called micro-bearings). The bearings of class 608 are most often used. Let us decipher this formulation.

The first digit - 6 - indicates that the bearing is of the "single-row deep groove" type (one row with a deep groove).

The second digit - 0 - indicates the bearing series. There are several series, from ultra-thin to heavy.

The third digit - 8 - corresponds to the diameter of the inner ring.

Usually, after the bearing type, Latin letters are written , which symbolize the type of anther on it. Most commonly used are:

Z - metal dust cover protects the support rollers on one side.

ZZ - metal anthers are available on both sides of the bearing.

RS (rubber shild) - indicates that the bearing is waterproof (but not waterproof), that is, it has a dustproof plate covered with rubber. The plate significantly extends the service life of the bearing.

2RS - covered with rubberized lamellas on both sides, lasts longer.

Also roller bearings are classified according to the ABEC scale (English "Annual Council of Bearing Engineers"). The larger the ABEC number, the more accurately the bearing is made. The higher the accuracy class, the smaller the bearing vibrates at high speed. There are several accuracy classes: ABEC 1, ABEC 3, ABEC 5, ABEC 7 and ABEC 9.

Lubrication of bearings

The ease with which the wheel rotates depends on how well and how well the bearing is lubricated. If the grease of the bearings is plastic (thick, consistent), then the wheel will rotate tugovato, and if the lubricant is liquid, the wheel will easily spin. But it is necessary to take into account the fact that in the shop the wheel rotates without load, on weight, and under the influence of your body weight the position will change. The resource of thick lubrication is noticeably higher, and they need less maintenance. Liquid lubricant is more short-lived because it can evaporate or leak out, and in this case roller bearings wear quickly, which causes some inconvenience, as they often have to be replaced. And this, in turn, leads to unnecessary costs.
