What are the electrical safety tolerance groups?

Assigning a technical employee of a certain group with regard to electrical safety is an indispensable condition that allows him to obtain admission for the possibility of self-servicing of working electrical installations. The claimed requirement applies equally to persons directly using equipment in their work, but not related to electrical work. They are also certified for electrical safety.

Electricians who have passed training electricians, establishments / organizations delineate on such categories concerning specificity of employment:

• Administrative and technical personnel;
• Operational staff;
• Repair personnel;
• Operational and repair personnel;
• Technological personnel of electrified production departments.

To the administrative and technical workers, specialists and managers who are responsible for operational and technical maintenance, installation, various repair and adjustment activities in operating devices, as well as those having certain electrical safety tolerance groups are reckoned.

The duties of operational personnel include fast service of the apparatus, which includes the implementation of switching operations, inspection procedures, preparation of the workplace, granting permission to the craft, and strict supervision. Masters of the repair area, which are assigned groups of tolerance for electrical safety, carry out technical actions and many types of equipment repair, and can arrange its installation, introduction and testing.

Operational and repair personnel are specialists who have completed the course of the necessary training to work with the installations assigned to them, as evidenced by the electrical tolerance groups assigned to them. Technological workers participate in specific processes, the main component of which is electric energy (electric welding, electrolysis, electric arc furnaces, etc.).

All representatives of the personnel of the enterprise are assigned their own electrical tolerance groups. This happens after a number of the following actions: passing a medical examination, completing a course of study, testing knowledge by passing exams. The number of the group (from the 1st to the 5th) is affected by the length of service, education, information received and skills.

• 1st group - persons who do not have special training, but are employed in jobs where there are situations of electric shock.
• 2nd group - assigned only after passing the 72-hour program.
• 3rd group - the examiner must have experience with the previous group. He is obliged to fully study the structure and order of the service of electrical installations, to know the list of requirements for work, to master the basic methods and skills of practical rendering of the basics of first aid.
• 4-th group - for its assignment it is necessary to work out within the limits of the previous group not less than 3-6 months. There are also a number of requirements: the knowledge of electrical engineering in the amount taught in a vocational school, to have a clear idea of the possible dangers in work, to master the basic provisions of the Labor Safety Regulations, the EQP, the minimum requirements for fire safety, the provision of PMP.
• 5-th group - work with the 4th group for a period of at least 3-24 months. At the same time, it is necessary to know the diagrams of the working machines, to study the requirements for their operation, fire safety, the methods of organizing the work, direct supervision of the work in the installations, to be able to set out the requirements for minimizing risks, instructing specialists, to be able to teach safety engineering and theoretical and practical skills of PMP.
