What are abscesses? Causes and methods of treatment

Often, waking up in the morning, a person discovers unpleasant and ugly purulent rashes on the skin of the face. What are abscesses? Why do they appear? How can I get rid of them without harming my health? Many men and women are interested in these questions.

What are abscesses?

The abscess on the skin is the result of an inflammatory process accompanied by the formation of pus. In most cases, the appearance of such formation is the result of activity of pathogenic microorganisms. Ulcer can have different sizes. Moreover, they can occur not only on the face, but also on any other area of the skin.

The centers of an inflammation can settle down as in the top layers of a skin (in such cases purulent masses gather on a surface), and in deeper. The skin around the abscess, as a rule, turns red and inflames.

Why do the abscesses appear?

It is generally believed that only teenagers can suffer from abscesses. In fact, people of different ages are faced with this problem. Certainly, the presence of festering acne can indicate hormonal disruption in the body, but this is not the only reason.

  • Quite often, the appearance of inflammation is associated with some individual skin features.
  • The allocation of excessive amounts of sebum leads to the blockage of pores, which in turn entails the activation of pathogenic microflora and the onset of an inflammatory process.
  • In some people, abscesses are a consequence of keratosis. With such a violation, the compaction of the corneal layers of the skin is observed, as a result of which the secretion of the sebaceous glands becomes difficult.
  • There is a disease called "medical acne". In such cases, the appearance of abscesses on the skin is the result of prolonged use of antibiotics or steroid anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • In some cases, the cause of the disease lies in the weakening of the immune system. If the body can not protect itself, activation of a conditionally pathogenic microflora is observed, which leads to inflammation of the skin.
  • Do not forget about proper nutrition. The use of a large number of sweets, spices, fatty dishes leads to a change in the chemical composition of sebum, which, again, is fraught with the activation of bacteria and - as a consequence - an inflammatory process.
  • On the other hand, one of the most common causes of ulcers is inadequate or inadequate hygiene.

Diseases accompanied by the appearance of purulent pimples

If you are interested in questions about what abscesses are and why they appear, you should know that in some cases the appearance of such unpleasant acne is associated with the development of a disease. Most often, multiple abscesses indicate the presence of acne. In addition, the causes include various fungal skin diseases, dyshidrosis, impetigo, shingles, scabies, purulent hydradenitis. In some cases purulent pimples testify to folliculitis, sometimes they arise and against the background of psoriasis.

Treatment of abscesses

Certainly, abscesses, especially if they appear often enough, is a good reason for contacting a dermatologist. Of course, you can try to get rid of them yourself, but self-medication can lead to negative consequences, including severe inflammation and scar formation, which can hardly be considered an adornment.

The attending physician will prescribe the appropriate treatment after examining and obtaining the result of the tests. After all, therapy in this case depends primarily on the causes of purulent acne. As a rule, patients are usually prescribed special antibacterial agents - they can be creams, ointments, lotions, solutions, etc. Especially effective are preparations containing benzoyl peroxide. If the abscesses on the face are the result of hormonal failures, it may be advisable to take hormonal medications. With a strong decrease in immunity, immunomodulators and vitamin remedies will help. In some cases, doctors recommend skin cleansing. But remember, you can not squeeze pimples on your own - you can only remove them from the doctor-cosmetologist! If the abscess is large and the skin around it is inflamed, surgical intervention may be necessary.

Prevention and proper skin care

If you know firsthand what an abscess is, then you realize that it's much easier to prevent their appearance than to try to get rid of them later. Of course, there is no universal preventive medicine in this case. But, observing some rules, you can reduce the risk of their occurrence. To begin with, remember that the skin requires constant and proper care, which should include regular cleansing, nutrition, moisturizing and protection. Carefully refer to the choice of cosmetics, as this affects the health of the skin.

In addition, the condition of skin tissues, as well as on all organ systems, will be positively affected by proper nutrition - eliminate from the diet fat and spicy food, limit the amount of sweets.
