What affects the student's psychological health?

What is psychological health? Let's drop medical terms. First of all, it is an opportunity to harmoniously build relationships with others and feel self-sufficient and satisfied with the person. What is the basis? Genetic selection or development at some stages. Genes, of course, no one canceled. But almost any person with the right development in childhood can grow into a harmonious personality with good psychological health.

Is it possible to select the criteria by which the degree of harmony between a person or a child is determined? Yes. It is possible to single out a number of characteristics that, in aggregate, are capable of giving a general assessment of the psyche. Here are the main ones:

  • The ability to understand oneself;
  • Perception of yourself as a positive person;
  • The ability to control oneself;
  • Emotionally open communication with peers;
  • The ability to empathize and empathize with other people;
  • Ability to form their own values and plans.

And how to measure psychological health? Is there a norm to which one should strive? Yes. A person who is able not only to adapt to the environment, but who is able to self-develop in it and contribute to its improvement, can be considered the norm for determining a socially and psychologically healthy person. It would be even more accurate to say this: it is a person who is able to change himself and change the environment for his own convenience.

When it comes to the development of personality psychology , first of all, it is important to talk about child development. Since it is in childhood that the psyche is the most vulnerable and sensitive, in childhood it is easiest to destroy the psyche, and it will be very difficult to collect it afterwards. After all, as we know, all psychological problems come from childhood. Therefore, it is important to consider factors that can negatively affect the psychological health of children.

The cause of the disorder of mental balance is conflict, but not everyone. A child who has grown up in an absolutely conflict-free environment can have even greater difficulties in social adaptation in the future than a child who grew up in the presence of constructive conflicts. This is a significant moment, because the conflict can also be destructive, that is, destroys the person.

Destructive conflicts lead to an underestimation of oneself as a person, the formation of various complexes, and self-doubt. A single destructive conflict almost any child can survive and forget. But constantly recurring they lead to the destruction of the child's psyche, to a life crisis, to neurotic reactions.

Prolonged neurotic reactions can develop into neurotic anxiety, when one side of the destructive conflict is forced into the mind of the child. The anxiety, in turn, further undermines the psychological health of schoolchildren, paralyzing the ability to act and causing helplessness and impotence. Moreover, anxiety can be manifested implicitly and can be detected only with a special psychological examination.

Consider the factors that can lead to the emergence of persistent school anxiety:

  • Significant training loads;
  • The inability to keep up with the school curriculum;
  • Increased requirements of parents for the achievement of the child;
  • Incoherent relationships with one or more educators;
  • Frequent changes of the collective.

Often, adults are too critical of the child, do not forgive even the slightest weakness, thus seriously impairing his self-esteem. And this is a very risky moment. Constant criticism without praise (even for the smallest successes) undermines the psychological health of the child, developing in it stubbornness, aggressiveness or, conversely, the inability to adequately assess themselves, which will further affect the success in development.
