Vasodilating drops

One of the most common diseases in the world is the common cold. In fact, the rhinitis is a reaction of the human body to various irritants, from dust and infection to local or general hypothermia. Rhinitis is observed during ARVI and influenza, with adenoiditis, as well as chronic and acute inflammation.

To treat this unpleasant disease, vasoconstrictor drops and sprays are mainly used. Getting on the mucous membrane of the nose, they contribute to the narrowing of blood vessels. As a result, edema that blocks air access is eliminated, and the rate of formation and the amount of mucus are markedly reduced. Accordingly, the nose breathes much easier.

Which medications should I use to treat the common cold?

Most of the medics used to treat rhinitis are those drugs that contain xylometazoline. The first among the most famous and long-used drugs can be called "Galazolin." It is available in droplets and as a gel for children and adults.

Xylometazoline today can be purchased and in the form of a spray for the nose. By the way, sprays are more preferable than other means, because of the accuracy of the dosage, low frequency of adverse reactions and more economical drug consumption. The duration of their action is no more than 4 hours.

Oxymetazoline is another popular component of catarrhal medications. He is a part of such pre-shops as "Nazol", "Nazivin" and "Fervex" (spray). More recently, on the pharmaceutical market, there were yet another sosudosuzhivayuschie drops on the basis of oxymetazoline - "Fazin." In the US they are very popular.

It is worth noting more drugs such as "Sanorin" and "Naphtizin." They are based on naphazoline, a well-proven substance. These vasoconstrictive drops can be safely called the cheapest medications for the treatment of the common cold. They are available in a variety of forms: an emulsion, a spray and, in fact, a drop.

All of the above drugs are not recommended for use in the treatment of pregnant or lactating women, in contrast to the following medications. Such vasoconstrictors as "Fatal" and "Tizin", can be used during pregnancy, only, of course, after consulting with the attending physician. Children can also take them - the drug "Fatal" from 6-7 years, and the drug "Tizin" - from 2 years.

Can I take vasoconstrictive drops for a long time?

All the annotations to the medicines of this kind assure that it is not necessary to use them for more than 6-7 days in a row.

Applying them for a short time, you can avoid side effects, but the regular use of vasoconstrictor is quite dangerous.

First, the nose can become a "drug addict". That is, the vessels can become dependent on the medication used: there is no "dose" - they relax, there is a narrowing, and this can eventually lead to mucosal edema. By the way, if too often drip the medicine into the nasal passages, the vessels may completely stop responding to all manipulations. And sometimes the use of the drug gives an unexpected result, only increasing the swelling. Therefore, do not abuse sprays and drops.

Secondly, the constant use of vasoconstrictors can disrupt the nutrition of the nasal mucosa - thinning it, and making the vessels brittle and easily damaged when lifting blood pressure and injuries. And this can cause frequent bleeding from the nose.

And third, overdose of drugs can trigger depression, sleep disorder, nausea, headache, arrhythmia and high blood pressure.

By the way, drops in the nose with allergies are dangerous enough to use, so as not to provoke the emergence of negative consequences. In any case, it is better to consult with your doctor before using them.

In any case, medicamentous treatment is desirable to supplement and folk remedies, for example, with hot foot baths, warm tea with honey and lemon, as well as multivitamin preparations.

Be healthy!
