Treatment of otitis in a child: basic methods

Otitis is an inflammatory process, localized in the middle ear. It is more common in children, which is associated with anatomical features of the structure of the hearing organ in children. And, as a rule, the disease is accompanied by a significant rise in temperature. Treatment of otitis in a child should begin with the removal of pain - the main cause of concern for young patients and their parents, which is the main reason for contacting a specialist.

To this end, prescribe the drug "Paracetamol" or "Nurofen" (it has a more pronounced analgesic effect). Dosage is selected based on the weight of the child's body. Many talk about the serious side effect of this drug - hepatotoxicity, but its metabolism in the body of children goes without damaging the liver, which allows you to safely use the drug in pediatric practice. In addition, when treating otitis in a child, the drug "Meloksikam" (refers to selective blockers of COX-2, therefore, does not possess ulcerogenic effect) can be used with an anesthetic effect, and children from 12 years of age are allowed to take Nimesulide. In addition, these drugs have antipyretic effect, which increases their effectiveness in case of rising temperatures in the child. With the same purpose, ear drops "Otipaks", "Kafradeks", "Otinum" are prescribed. They need to be digested into the sore ear two or three times a day, at a time - four drops. In addition, to compress the pain syndrome, compresses (for example, alcohol) can be used, but they can be used only after the severity of the process has subsided (that is, when the child's temperature has already subsided). And it must be borne in mind that compresses are contraindicated if it is a question of treating purulent otitis media. Before applying a compress, check the surface temperature by applying a gauze to the palm of your hand. Do not leave it for a long time, otherwise you risk getting a chemical burn in addition to otitis. To reduce inflammation, improve the outflow of inflammatory fluid from the ear, and, respectively, and with an anesthetic goal, appointed vasoconstrictive drops in the nose: "Naphthyzinum", "Galazolin", "Xilmetazolinum", "Xilen", "Vnanos", "Nazol", " Otrivin. " It is important to change nasal drops every three days to avoid reducing the effectiveness of treatment.

The pain was removed. What's next? And further treatment of otitis in the child continues to affect the cause of the disease. To do this, antibiotics are prescribed. And they begin etiotropic therapy with penicillins: drugs "Augmentin" and "Amoxiclav" in the form of powder for the preparation of suspensions, "Lemoclave" in the form of tablets for older children. Dosage is prescribed based on the instructions. Also effective are macrolide drugs: Sumamed (Azithromycin), Vilprafen. Previously, macrolides were considered the drugs of choice in the treatment of otitis, but now in this field they were pressed by antibiotics of the penicillin series.

Effective are also such procedures as ear blowing, pneumomassage of the tympanic membrane. They contribute to improving the outflow of inflammatory fluid, which is the prevention of complications.

Surgical treatment is prescribed in the case of development of purulent otitis. Thus pay attention to such basic signs of an otitis at the child, as temperature, a pain and a status of a tympanic membrane. It is believed that the presence of its bulging (this symptom is detected with otoscopy) is a direct indication for paracentesis, i.e., opening of the tympanic membrane with subsequent drainage for the outflow of pus.

After the otitis, the child can be assigned physiotherapy - UHF, UFO, electrophoresis, the use of vitamins.

To formidable complications caused by otitis, include meningitis, mastoiditis - inflammation of the mastoid process, hearing loss. Perforation of the tympanic membrane threatens children, who often have purulent otitis. Therefore, the treatment of otitis in a child should be performed by an ENT doctor. And you can not run this business in any case.
