Three-wheeled scooter: two wheels in front or two wheels behind

Ten years ago on the road unexpectedly rolled out unusual scooters. The three-wheeled scooter had a truly revolutionary design. Two wheels were not located behind, as usual, but in front. To whom the first came to mind, it is not known. But the first models after the recession of surging emotions did not cause a special enthusiasm among consumers. New efforts are on the way.

Where more usual look the same scooters, but, as it should, with two wheels behind. Let's talk about some and other models in order.

Three-wheeled scooter

How many wheels to choose for transport, two or three, decide, depending on what it is purchased for. For a normal driver, a two-wheeled motor scooter is quite convenient: it maneuvers quite well and easily overcomes traffic jams.

But there is a category of people for whom it will be more convenient to be more stable means, which is a three-wheeled scooter. They are elderly people, invalids, villagers, as well as fishermen, hunters and summer residents.

Of course, in the first place such a vehicle was developed specifically for people with disabilities. A simple design consists of two rear and one front wheel.

However, three-wheeled vehicles were not ignored by fans of the cross, preferring its quad bikes and minibikes. The reasons for such a strange choice, at first glance, are prosaic:

  • Since the motor here is pushed back, it does not interfere with the legs;
  • Such transport protects well from dirt;
  • Three wheels are more stable than two.

Features

A three-wheeled scooter can be walking, sports or transport. For the first use, as a rule, weak motors up to 150 cubes, and one or two places.

The cargo scooter has a trunk with which you can transport large boxes, bags and other cargo. Such transport is able to transport mainly cargo to one hundred and fifty kilograms, and less often to two hundred.

Walking and cargo models can have a roof and glass with wipers. Basically, such models are scooters, driving on gasoline. But the producers are also working on the development of gas and hybrid models. The speed of such transport is up to sixty kilometers per hour.

Sports models are more powerful machines. The volume on them reaches 250 cubic centimeters, and in some cases even up to 580. They are represented by four-cycle units with liquid cooling. These models have only gasoline engines. Of course, there are no roofs in them. But a windshield can be provided.

Depending on the purpose of the vehicle, the three-wheeled scooter has brakes on one or all of the disks.

Chic or so it is just necessary?

Scooter closed type resembles a cross between a motorcycle and an electric car for travel in warehouses. But if you look at the price indicators, then this transport begins to look like a luxury:

  • Walking scooters with a roof cost from five thousand dollars;
  • Freight - from seven thousand dollars;
  • Sports - from ten to twelve thousand.

The price depends on the technical characteristics of the model. But this transport is clearly not cheap. Although if noble goals are put, the value will no longer matter. Nevertheless, if desired, it is easy to assemble a three - wheeled double scooter or a single- seat scooter . All components for this are sold. Just find the right motorcycle, put a little effort - and the vehicle is ready.

This scooter consumes little fuel and is a more convenient and less dangerous mode of transport for driving along the road and the highway. An irreplaceable tool can be a three-wheeled scooter for fishing, hunting and at the dacha.

Motor scooter on the contrary

For the first time these strange vehicles appeared in Europe, and the largest manufacturer of scooters Piaggio began to produce it immediately in several modifications: Gilera Fuoco 500, Piaggio MP3 400, 250 and 125.

The fact that three-wheeled transport is more stable than two-wheeled, all are absolutely certain. Attempts to launch the production of this type of scooter arose more than once. However, they were not feeling warm feelings for the simple reason that the sense of drive disappeared when tilted or turned, and the overall dimensions were increased.

Three-wheeled scooter Honda Giro

The Japanese decided to cope with human dislike for such scooters in that the wheels were spaced apart from each other closely with the hinged fastening to the main part of the scooter. It turned out, when the driver made a turn, the transport tilted.

Of course, because of its unusualness, the three-wheeled scooter "Honda" has attracted the attention of many people. But then began to notice that its stability is not at all good, and the applied plastic, when hit on it, left on itself any trace from the road surface.

Breakthrough or again failure?

Experienced motorcyclists and scooters know well that the skid on the front wheel is much more serious than on the rear wheel. If it happens behind, then the fall can be prevented by loosening the brake, but it's usually not possible to cope with the skidding of the front wheel. Therefore, it turns out that the third wheel behind does not give much stability. But if, on the contrary, to establish it ahead, it is assumed that the stability will increase at times. To do this, there was a lot of work of engineers. And in the company Piaggio got down to business. According to the company they managed to make a revolution and they launched a new three-wheeled scooter. Reviews are not yet available. Time will tell how the idea is viable.

At the front assembly they have two tilting wheels. The inclined device is equipped with aluminum levers, four axles with fixation on the central tube of the frame and two guide pipes at each end, which are connected by ball bearings and suspension arms. When turning the handlebar, the posts at the ends may be skewed relative to the frame. And one and the other wheel in front have their suspension and brake disc. When you stop the tool, a lock is triggered, but you can turn it on automatically.

Revolutionary tricycles have engines of 400 and 500 cubic meters, accelerating to 150 kilometers per hour. The developers assure that such a scheme of work makes this mode of transport much more stable, especially in the event of obstacles. In Moscow it can be purchased today in the Piaggio MP33 250 kit for 7300 euros.
