Honda CB 500: review, TTX, reviews

It is not in vain in the biker environment that there is an opinion that everything, on which the magic word "Honda" is written, is of high quality, up to the details elaborated by design and 100% justifies its rather high price. A lot of motorcycles have descended from the conveyors of this manufacturer, which have become real legends and the subject of the dreams of millions of people who do not imagine life without "iron horses".

But the monster of the Japanese motorcycle industry is oriented not only to the elite, ready to shell out at the motor show for several tens of thousands of dollars. The Honda CB 500 is an excellent confirmation. This classic road bike, even at the height of glory, did not shock the price. However, this does not mean that in its production, Honda has changed its highest quality standards. Our review is useful to those who think about buying this model.

Short story

The launch of the Honda CB 500 motorcycle started in 1993. The model was developed exclusively for the European and US markets. The first time motorcycles of this series were produced in Japan, and after a while production was moved to Italy. This motorcycle descended from the conveyors of the concern for 10 years. Periodically, the manufacturer made some changes, but they mainly concerned the brake device. Neither the design nor the TTX modernization was not affected.

Versions

Initially, the model was produced without a fairing, and only in 1998 there was a version with it. On its presence says the note S in the title.

TTX

If you are thinking about purchasing a Honda CB 500 motorcycle, the specifications will surely interest you in the first place. The bike is built on a steel duplex frame and is equipped with a two-cylinder four-stroke engine with a volume of 499 "cubes", which is capable of delivering up to 58 hp. The fuel is supplied with two Keihin CV carburetors . The drive is carried out by a chain, ignition - electronic. All models have a 37 mm telescope with a stroke of 115 mm. Behind there is a double shock-absorber. The dry weight is 170 kg, and with a full tank the motorcycle weighs 190. The capacity of the fuel tank is 18 liters, which is a lot at the declared expense.

Behavior on the road

Motorcycle Honda CB 500, the characteristics of which are typical for a roadster, can accelerate to hundreds in 4.3 seconds. The manufacturer claims a top speed of 185 km / h, but even an experienced pilot should not forget that this is still not a sport, and it is not necessary to overclock it.

Reviews of the owners of this motorcycle unanimously testify to his quick reactions to the teams, calm character and excellent stability. Buying this model, you can be sure that you can not be afraid of drifts and drifts with skillful management. In many ways, the behavior on the road depends on the coverage. Late autumn with snow-covered and icy areas is not the best time to show off on this bike. On the gravel, the bike behaves extremely uncertainly.

Comfort of the pilot and passenger

Many owners of high growth note that the bike is too low. For those whose growth exceeds 1.8 m, it may seem too small and the distance from the saddle to the footboard. Landing a pilot on a motorcycle Honda CB 500 is typical for most road builders - with a slight inclination forward. The passenger can accommodate comfortably. The rear seat is spacious, firm, resilient.

Honda CB 500 target audience, reviews

First of all, this bike is designed for those who have to travel around the city. This is really his element. Most often, this model is chosen by those who already have at least a small experience of driving. It can be recommended as a first motorcycle, but it will take perseverance and caution to develop the skill. Not all arrange a mirror. Many see them as their own shoulders, not the road.

The feedback of the owners often refers to fuel consumption and the cost of maintaining the motorcycle. Honda CB 500 absorbs an average of 5.5 liters per hundred, but much depends on the style of driving. With competent care, the motorcycle pleases the owner for many years, and a wide dealer network and numerous service centers help to ensure this care.

Honda CB500 from Asia

It is worth noting that there is another model that is often confused with the Honda CB 500 motorcycle described in this article. The review would be incomplete without mentioning the Asian bike. There are three modifications:

  • Sport Honda CBR500R ;
  • The naked Honda CB500F;
  • Tour-enduro Honda CB500X

In the photo above you can see a naked Thai production, which is even visually easy to distinguish from Japanese and Italian classics. The differences between them are insignificant and mainly concern the body kit. All 3 models are manufactured in Thailand and sold in Asian countries. Sportbike - the only motorcycle from this whole series, which you can buy in Russia. Here it is important to understand that this is a completely different model, which has nothing to do with the topic of our review, except for the consonant title.

Price list

To find in the showrooms a motorcycle, the production of which was discontinued almost 15 years ago, is almost impossible. But if you are dreaming about this model, you should pay attention to the secondary market. Motorcycle without mileage in the Russian Federation will cost an average of 3-3.5 thousand dollars. The main competitors of the model today are Kawasaki ER-5 and Suzuki GS-500.
