The tragic duel and death of Pushkin

The story of the death of the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin should begin with the description of the main culprit for the untimely death of the classic of Russian literature, Georges Charles Dantes. After all, the tragic death of Pushkin was the consequence of the defiant behavior of the Frenchman, which was the reason for the duel, which took the life of the famous Russian poet.

Cornet of the Cavalry Regiment Dantes came to Russia and burst into Pushkin's peaceful life some time after the revolution in France with the goal of making a successful career. There he was adopted by the Dutch ambassador in Petersburg Heeckeren and gave him his name. In the city itself, Dantes received a very warm welcome, and presented it to the officers of the regiment himself Emperor Nicholas I, who expressed the hope that he would justify the trust and excel in service from the best side. However, Georges did not show any zeal and often neglected his duties in the regiment, for which 44 times he was subjected to various penalties.

Dantes was handsome enough and had the right features. His height was above average, and he was very fit for the cavalcade form. In addition to the compelling appearance, it is worth mentioning the character of Georges, who was full of bragging and self-satisfaction. But that's what attracted him frivolous girls, ready to laugh at any phrase of the Frenchman.

Alexander Pushkin's acquaintance with Dantes occurred in 1834. The poet immediately disliked the pompous cornet for his arrogant temper and cheerful conversations with the ladies. And Dantes, in turn, liked Natalia Nikolayevna, who was the wife of Alexander Sergeevich. And he began to pay special attention to her, and she was not against it, on the contrary, such interest from the charming cavalier-man even flattered the companion of the great poet. Initially, Pushkin did not react to it and did not take such courtship seriously. He loved his wife and trusted her immensely. Meanwhile, Dantes already openly sought Natalia Nikolaevna, which caused whispers and laughter behind Alexander's back.

Dantes supported in courtship and his adoptive father Heeckeren, who was considered a cheeky and voluptuous old man, interfering in all matters of his son. All this could not go on like this, and the last straw was a letter received by Pushkin from a group of loafers who were busy sending out letters to husbands whose wives were cheating on them.

The next day, Alexander Sergeevich summoned Georges to a duel, intending to take revenge on him for the offense, but Baron Heeckeren told Pushkin that Dantes was going to marry Natalia Goncharova 's sister - Catherine. This circumstance did not force the poet to abandon his intention, since he did not believe that the Frenchman really was in love with his bride. Alexander believed that in this way, d'Anthes tries to avoid a fight.

However, in the future such circumstances developed that Pushkin was forced to abandon the duel. He wrote a letter to the second Dantes, where he explained in detail the reasons for the refusal, and both sides agreed not to hold a duel, thus postponing Pushkin's death.

But the duel did take place after a while. The reason was the words of Heeckeren, said Natalia Goncharova. The Baron asked her when she would leave her husband and go to Dantes. Alexander Sergeyevich did not tolerate this and sent an angry letter to Heeckeren. Then in the night, the second of Dantes delivered a message to Pushkin, which referred to the poet's challenge to a duel. Naturally, he did not refuse and accepted the challenge.
During the historic duel Pushkin was mortally wounded in the stomach, and Dantes got off with a slight injury of the arm. After that, the poet was immediately taken home, where Arendt's doctor came to him, who informed Alexander Sergeyevich about his imminent death.
The date of Pushkin's death is February 10, 1837. At that time, medicine was at a fairly low level, and therefore Pushkin's death was inevitable. However, in 1937, Soviet surgeons led by Academician Burdenko said that nowadays Alexander Sergeevich would be cured even by a doctor of medium qualification.

The death of Pushkin greatly agitated the public. The Moika embankment was full of people, and people all came and came to say goodbye to the genius of Russian literature. They perceived the news of the poet's death as a personal tragedy, and the upper class, on the contrary, was completely on the side of Dantes and supported him in every possible way.
It is safe to say that the duel and death of Pushkin left an indelible mark on the history of Russian and world literature.
