David Herbert Lawrence. Biography

Lawrence was born in 1885 in a large family (was the fourth child) of a former teacher and an illiterate miner. Because of this contrast, intellectually, the relationship between the spouses was strained. This pretty much influenced the young writer.

David Herbert Lawrence from the very childhood showed interest in learning, and in particular to literature. In 1898, the boy received a scholarship to the Higher Nottingham School. And already in 1906 the future writer graduated from his education in Nottingen University at the Pedagogical Faculty. After that, Lawrence got a job at Croydon Elementary School. It was there that he began to write his first stories and poems. Success did not take long. Already in 1907, David Herbert Lawrence wins the storytelling competition, which was arranged by the popular English newspaper Nottingham Guardian. This victory brings the writer the first rays of glory.

Further activities

David continues his creative work. His poems and stories are actively published and other English newspapers. However, the writer decides to try himself in new genres. Thus, in 1911, Laurence's first novel, entitled The White Peacock , was published . The work though did not produce a resonance, nevertheless thanks to him Lawrence was able to get good money. This allowed him to leave teaching and fully devote himself to creativity.

The first serious work of David can be considered a novel called "Sons and Lovers", which was published in 1913. This work is semi-autobiographical. In it, Lawrence talks about his youth and ambiguous relationships with his own parents. According to the famous magazine "Newskvik", the novel "Sons and Lovers" deserves 71st place in the rating of one hundred best books of all time.

Journey

In 1912, Lawrence met his former university teacher's wife, who was the mother of three. Between David and Frida at once there is an incredible passion. And after a couple of months they go on a trip. After wanderings through Germany and Italy, which lasted for two years, the beloved return to England and marry. Stormy marriage inspired Lawrence to write the first collection of poems, which was called "Look! We have coped!".

While abroad, Lawrence began work on a rather voluminous work called "Sisters." Later in the project included the novels "Lovers of Women" and "Rainbow" which for a rather short time was written by David Herbert Lawrence. The writer's books were banned for publication because of obscene content.

Emigration

Disappointed in England and English society, which rejected his work, the writer, along with his wife, leaves the country forever. Despite the devastating criticism of his compatriots, David Herbert Lawrence continues his creative work. Thus, in 1920 there is a novel called "Missing Girl". This work brings to the author a prestigious award named after James Tight Black. After that Lawrence publishes a couple more works that have made noise in the world literary community (for example, "Aaron's Flute", "Kangaroo", "Classical American Literature"). Also, after lengthy travels around the world, Lawrence publishes four descriptions of his travels.

In the last years of his life, while in Florence, David wrote a work that can be safely called the magnum opus of Lawrence's work. It's about the novel "Lover of Lady Chatterley", which stirred up all the world literature. Interestingly, this work was published in the UK only in 1960.

In 1930, the writer's health was shaken. Lawrence stayed on treatment in a sanatorium, nevertheless in May of the same year he died of tuberculosis.

Lawrence has tried himself in the lyrics since his youth. Initially, David did in the usual for that time Gregorian manner. Nevertheless, soon the poet developed his own, unique and unique style, which had some shades of imagism.

Poetry Lawrence was very bright, subtle and sensual. She was strongly out of the then conservative concepts of the poem. It is for this reason that Lawrence's lyrics have not won the wide recognition of critics and readers. In life, David's poetry was read only by a narrow circle of connoisseurs.
